1 | The MacArthur study Bible | Col 2:2 | tortoise | 114871
Hi leonore, Yes, MacArthur, who is still living, has written a study Bible. And he definitely has a certain denominationaly perspective, which is Reformed and it is all very complicated. The best thing I have found is to ask the indwelling Holy Spirit to teach you the meaning of the passage you are studying. John 16:13 says, "But when He, the Spirit of truth, comes, He will guide you into all the truth; for He will not speak on His own initiative, but whatever He hears, He will speak; and He will disclose to you what is to come." 2 | what is right and wrong in the marraige | 1 Cor 7:5 | tortoise | 114407
Hi Easter30, Rom 1 is referring to same sex relationships which are always wrong. You and your spouse are to be available for each exclusively. 1 Cor 7:5 says, "Stop depriving one another, except by agreement for a time, so that you may devote yourselves to prayer, and come together again so that Satan will not tempt you because of your lack of self-control." If pornography is involved that person is deriving something sexually from it that they should be getting from the marriage partner. Your mate should love you, and part of that is to respect how YOU feel. If you don't like something then they should limit themselves to something you ARE comfortable with and not force you. Rom 14:23 says, "and whatever is not from faith is sin". But I don't know of anything that is forbidden between a husband and a wife. Absolutely you have a right to feel jealous. Pornography is a real problem with some people (mostly men but sometimes women too). It can be like an adiction and be very hard to give up. If they don't or won't stop you might need to get help from a third party like a counselor or pastor. A book you can give to a guy would be "Every Man's Battle", I think it is by Henry Cloud. tortoise |

3 | Does Jesus heal or does ones faith heal? | Hab 2:4 | tortoise | 114375
dweaver, I think it is like salvation itself. Eph 2:8-9 say we are saved by grace through faith. Our faith is only a conduit through which the power of God may flow. No faith no power, great faith great power. Many places in scripture say that the "just shall live by faith". Paul had an infirmity in his flesh and God did not heal him because he said that his grace was sufficient for him, 2 Cor 12:7-10. So, we can't say with certainty that God has not healed us because of our lack of faith. When it comes to living our lives faith is hugh, but when it comes to physical healing I am not so sure. But I am sure that if the Lord does not return before hand we will all pass throught the door of death only to meet our Lord Jesus on the other side. But to give you a direct answer I think it was Jesus' power that healed them through their faith. God bless, tortoise |

4 | please explain | Rom 5:4 | tortoise | 114368
Hi leonore, Please also see rom 8:28, and James 1:2-4. When we go through trials and hang in there knowing God is in control and seeking his leading we develop inner strength based on what God can do. We learn to trust him. When we are strengthened by this method we say, wow the rest of lifes problems are small stuff for God, so our outlook on life brightens, that's hope. God bless, tortoise |

5 | Self-Esteem | 2 Cor 5:17 | tortoise | 114367
Also Gal 2:20, "I have been crucified with Christ; and it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself up for me." Also, 1 John 3:1, See how great a love the Father has bestowed on us, that we would be called children of God; and such we are. For this reason the world does not know us, because it did not know Him." Also please see my testimony. |

6 | I'm confused about salvation | Matt 19:9 | tortoise | 114364
Hi JuanMas, Matthew 19:9 says "And I say to you, whoever divorces his wife, except for immorality, and marries another woman commits adultery." This is sometimes called the exception clause, giving a person Biblical grounds for divorce. The 1 Cor 7:10-15 passage is very good because it is addressed specifically to the church, but it doesn't contradict what Jesus said above. However if there is NO adultery and they get divorced and then get remarried they commit adultery along with whomever marries them. Divorce, however, is not the unforgivable sin. Christians sometimes sin and have to ask for forgiveness, but we generally can and do live apart from immorality, greed and a few other sins that would require sanction by the church body. And God will also chastise us for sin, Heb 12. But, the Bible also teaches that a person who does not demonstrate a walk of godliness probably has what James refers to in Chapter 2 as a "dead faith" or they claim to be a Christian but they really are not. Such a person has never really believed in Jesus Christ to the saving of their soul. As Jesus told them in John 8:44, "You are of your father the devil". I hope this answers your question. tortoise |

7 | Divorce? | Amos 1:1 | tortoise | 114332
hi roman t, Would you like a 3rd answer? While God allows divorce for marital unfaithfulness does he not also require us to forgive sins? Matt 6:14 "For if you forgive others for their transgressions, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. Matt 6:15 "But if you do not forgive others, then your Father will not forgive your transgressions. So the "law" permits divorce but being forgiven requires us to forgive. Therefore if the immoral person will not be reconcilled and absolutely will not return to the relationship, shall we wait forever for them? You know, I think maybe that people who tell you otherwise may all be married. tortoise |

8 | What does this verse mean? | Phil 4:7 | tortoise | 114330
Hi realmenlovejesus, Phil 4:19 And my God will supply all your needs according to His riches in glory in Christ Jesus. All your needs now: food, clothing, fellowship, God's love and comfort and fellowship, with persection. We will trust him for the transition. Enjoying God and his presence for all eterniy. We can't even to begin to imagine what he has planned for us. God is good and he is in control so we win. "O DEATH, WHERE IS YOUR VICTORY? O DEATH, WHERE IS YOUR STING?" The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law; but thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. 1 Cor 15:55-57 tortoise |

9 | Healing | Is 53:5 | tortoise | 114329
Hi IreneB, Yes, I also think it is talking about spiritual healing. We were made in God's image, but through the fall and sin we have lost what was intended for us, that is to know God, enjoy fellowship with him, receiving love and comfort from him, but with this we also receive afflictions as he did. This hugh benefit to our soul is temporally what this healing is all about, and of course in eternity our consolation will endure forever. And to reflect his glory we must pass on what we have received to others, "Phil 2:1 Therefore if there is any encouragement in Christ, if there is any consolation of love, if there is any fellowship of the Spirit, if any affection and compassion, Phil 2:2 make my joy complete by being of the same mind, maintaining the same love, united in spirit, intent on one purpose." tortoise |

10 | Where would there be no transgression? | Rom 4:15 | tortoise | 112850
Luke 12:47 "And that slave who knew his master's will and did not get ready or act in accord with his will, will receive many lashes, Luke 12:48 but the one who did not know it, and committed deeds worthy of a flogging, will receive but few. From everyone who has been given much, much will be required; and to whom they entrusted much, of him they will ask all the more. |

12 | Gods truth can not be denied. | Matt 10:28 | tortoise | 112820
Hi bumpas5, If you know that you might die at any moment, why not give more thought to eternity? Eccl 3:11 "He has made everything appropriate in its time. He has also set eternity in their heart, yet so that man will not find out the work which God has done from the beginning even to the end." And, John 3:16 "For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life." Would that fit your definition of eternal love? 13 | How do we "glorify God" in our body? | 1 Cor 6:20 | tortoise | 112818
Hi mommapbs, Ray's answer is certainly part of the answer. Well, a really big and important part. Loving one another is like really important. But, is there more? Rom 12:1 I APPEAL to you therefore, brethren, and beg of you in view of [all] the mercies of God, to make a decisive dedication of your bodies [presenting all your members and faculties] as a living sacrifice, holy (devoted, consecrated) and well pleasing to God, which is your reasonable (rational, intelligent) service and spiritual worship. Does this verse say that the Lord can send us anywhere He wants? Are we listening? Are we ready to pay the price? Maybe, not until we are ready to die for Him are we ready to live for Him. "Speak Lord, your servant is listening". 1 Sam 3:10, Cliff J. P.S I liked your profile, thanks for sharing. |

14 | Does ignorance excuse accountability? | Rom 4:15 | tortoise | 112813
mommapbs, I don't think so. In Romans 1: 16-18 it says that they know who God is but have turned away in willful ignorance. Elsewhere it says if we are guilty of one law we are quilty of all and have earned death. So I don't see any escape from the penalty. |

15 | why jesus is lord | Gen 1:1 | tortoise | 112810
nikkiydup, What do you have a hard time? In any case I offer a few. 1 Cor 15:3 For I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received, that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, 1 Cor 15:4 and that He was buried, and that He was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures, 1 Cor 15:5 and that He appeared to Cephas, then to the twelve. 1 Cor 15:6 After that He appeared to more than five hundred brethren at one time, most of whom remain until now, but some have fallen asleep; 1 Cor 15:7 then He appeared to James, then to all the apostles; 1 Cor 15:8 and last of all, as to one untimely born, He appeared to me also. |

16 | What about the sabbath day? | Rom 10:4 | tortoise | 112616
Hi jilliebbean, Mark 2:27 Jesus said to them, "The Sabbath was made for man, and not man for the Sabbath." Jesus healed on the Sabbath, and the Pharises didn't like it. But I like the Sabbath (well Sunday) and keep it, but not for righteousness, because Jesus in my righteousness. But I work so hard the rest of the week I am not going to get into a panic that I need more stuff and have to stretch my work week to 7 days. God said this day is for you. You can take it off and not work and I will still provide for you. He promises to meet all our needs, Matt 6:33. And since Jesus healed on the Sabbath, and He is our example, we likewise should follow in His footsteps. tortoise |

17 | Is habitualy working out acceptable? | Gal 5:13 | tortoise | 112614
I suppose it is better than watching TV. But what do you mean by habitually? Like 6 days a week for 2 hours a day? I work out 5-6 days a week for maybe 45 minutes. I am trying at to least stay in good shape. But I think of the summer on the boardwalk in NJ with all the people struting their stuff. I think if it is all about me and how great I look it can become a little ego-centric. I tend to go that way myself and have to draw a line and tell myself that enough is enough.

19 | Good start in Bible for new Christian? | Luke | tortoise | 112551
Hi mamabear, You are on the right track already, hungering for the Word of God. I would recommend an introductory workbook, such as Operation Timothy offered by CBMC (International Christian Business Men's Committee). It is basicly a study of major themes running through the Bible that have immediate impact on your life. There are 2 very short books in the series, Part 1 and 2. It asks a few insightful questions and has you answer them by looking up Scripture verses, and has preprinted memory cards in the back. You may contact them for a copy of these publications at: CBMC P.O. Box 3239 Chattanooga, TN 37404 God bless as you walk with Him, tortoise |

20 | Do you encourage change in new christian | Rom 12:2 | tortoise | 112547
The Holy Spirit works in our lives, on the inside, to change us. He uses the Word, and conviction of sin. There are many lists of sins and evidences of His work in our lives. I think of Gal 5. Does she really understand that she has been called to liberty (from sin and dead) to serving one another in love, v13? Verses 19-26 give lists of what should be dropped and what should be added. Keep your disciple in fervent prayer as you work with her.
