NASB | Romans 7:6 But now we have been released from the Law, having died to that by which we were bound, so that we serve in newness of the Spirit and not in oldness of the letter. |
AMPLIFIED 2015 | Romans 7:6 But now we have been released from the Law and its penalty, having died [through Christ] to that by which we were held captive, so that we serve [God] in the newness of the Spirit and not in the oldness of the letter [of the Law]. |
Subject: Are we free from the Law? |
Bible Note: I partially agree with John MacArthur's statement ('Grace does not permit what the law prohibits. "Grace" never signifies the lowering of God's moral demands.'). The statement, I think, is based on how God carried out the salvation work through Jesus Christ, of course, by obeying His own sacrificial old testament law. Contrary to MacArthur's statement, I have seen statements like, "Grace has no bound." "Our God is omnipotent and omniscient." I do understand why MacArthur said that and I have no intention of ignoring our God's characters (holy, righteous, just). However, I do not want to put our God in a box. He is capable of anything, is He not? iktoose |
