AMPLIFIED 2015 | Romans 6:3 Or are you ignorant of the fact that all of us who have been baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into His death? |
Subject: Do you have to be baptized to be saved? |
Bible Note: Well, cjjeep, the way that I see 1 Peter 3:21 is that it is affirming exactly the opposite. By "baptism now saves you," I believe that is clarifies itself by stating "not the removal of dirt from the flesh, but an appeal to God...through the resurrection of Christ." It is separating here the physical baptism, that which cleans the flesh, from the spiritual baptism, which takes place upon our "appeal to God." As for Romans 6:3, there is nothing there that speaks specifically of water baptism. The remainder of the passage retains the spiritual, not physical, analogy. Verse four certainly does not allude to our physical burial with Him. Our spiritual burial with him is a part of our spiritual baptism. |
