Subject: Do you have to be baptized to be saved? |
Bible Note: I raised the same question on baptism once during a bible study session and was given an answer that cleared a lot of other questions at the same time in this regard. I've searched for an answer for a very long time when in actual fact all I had to do was to realize that there is nothing I can do in myself as a human being that can contribute to my salvation. Not baptism, not going to church, not doing good unto others....or anything for that matter. God came to us first whle we were dead in our sins and called us out of the dead in Christ. It really is that simple. There is but nothing we can do in ourselves that will or can save us. The same as baptism goes for faith. It is not because of the fact that we believe in Christ saves us. That faith is not generated out of us, but is a gift from God. Note that millions of people / Christians think that they need to do something or contribute something in order to get saved.....this serves to be futile. We are born in sin and is by nature sinful in our hearts. If we ever attempt to contribute in this salvation we will polute God's work in Christ and will His work in Christ be useless. It was God who called us first and it is God who intervened to save us from eternal death.....not us but Him. Therefor, I believe that everything we do after we have been saved by His Grace, is done purely out of gratitude ... nothing else. We then live our lives in Christ, Him leading our every way.... and we do the things He wants us to do out of love for Him .... not to save ourselves or to justify ourselves. I always refer to the resurrection of Lazarus. He was dead for 4 days and Jesus brought him back to life, without him contributing anything. His state was a state of death and he couldn't do anything because he was dead. The same applies to us. We were dead in our sins and God saved us or called us back to life in Christ .... us not being able to do anything at all because of our state of death. I hope this will help you as well as it helped me find the truth about salvation. |
