Subject: Do you have to be baptized to be saved? |
Bible Note: hi you say "baptism is an outward acknowledgement of what has already been done in your heart". Can you back up that statement with scripture. Jesus told me to "believe and be baptized" to be saved(Mark 16:16). You must obey the death, burial, and resurrection of Christ(gospel)to be saved(1st Corinthians 15:1-4; 2nd Thessalonians 1:8; 1st Peter 4:17). The death is repentance(Acts 2:38 and 1st Peter 2:24). The burial and resurrection is baptism(John 3:5;Romans 6:3,4;Colossians 2:12; Titus 3:5). A believer is not saved until he is IN Christ. Paul prayed and fasted for three days(Acts 9:9-11) but was not saved till he "washed his sins away calling on the name of the Lord"(Acts 22:16). You can pray and fast forty days and nights and never will be saved by Christ because that would be utterly sinful and willful disobedience(Proverbs 28:9) to Jesus command in Mark 16:16 and Matthew 28:19. John the Baptist was a prophet who came to prepare a way for the Lord(Isaiah 40:3;Matthew 3:3) John the Baptist preached repentance and baptism for the remission of sins(Matthew 3:6;Mark 1:4;Luke 1:77;Luke 3:3). All spiritual blessings are IN Christ(Ephesians 1:3). The bible teaches baptism is how you enter Christ(1st Corinthians 12:13;Galatians 3:27). Acts 16:25-34 is the entire account of conversion and shows how those people accepted(believed)the message and were baptized(Mark 16:16 and Acts 2:41). You have to understand(2nd Peter 3:16)that every single account of conversion is not exhaustive in detail. But everyone who recieved salvation believed(John 3:16 and Hebrews 11:6), repented(Luke 3:5), confessed(Matthew 10:32) and were baptized into Christ for the remission of sins and reception of the Holy Spirit(Acts 2:38;Ephesians 1:13,14;1st Titus 3:5;1st Peter 3:21). Don't just be merely religious like the Pharisees and Sadducees(Matthew 3:7,8 and Luke 7:30). Be obedient(John 14:23). speaking the truth in love(Epesians 4:15). |
