Bible Note: Hi Tim, May I respond and get my two cents in before John does? :) I believe 1 Corinthians 3:1 does indicate the immature condition of the many Corinthian Christians. Here is the beauty of God's plan. As believers, born again, we aren't suddenly perfect. But because we have faith and are trying, God forgives instantly. He allows that imperfect children do walk in the light. The church at Corinth was the church, but needed some tweeking to improve its walk with God. Christians who have the Holy Spirit, are the temple of God, are admonished to not defile the temple. Only because they can does God warn them of it. The Ephesian letter speaks of the Christians being sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise, the earnest of our salvation: 'with a view to the redemption of God's own possession." Later in the same epistle, Paul warns the Christians against 'grieving the Holy Spirit" by whom they were sealed. The Holy Spirit is grieved when Christians begin to act 'unspiritual', 'functioning according to the flesh', as you put it. Have a good day. |
