Bible Question:
Dear Saints of the forum, Just curious, but for those among you that are committed members of a local church: How many other churches have you visited in say, the last 5 years? Of those, how many were of different denominations? Someone is going to ask, "Why do you ask?" I'll tell you after I get some answers! :-) In Christ Jesus, charis |
Bible Answer: Charis Because our church does not have Sunday evening worship I often visit other churches. Most are Assemblies of God, but in the last 5 years I think I have been in just about every authentic denomination with the exception of the Church of Christ and an Amish church. I have felt welcomed in all, however the Baptist were a little worried I might give a message in tongues :-). In fact I have had the privilege of being part of the service in many different denominations. I always try to identify myself to the Pastor as a visitor being from AoG background and no one has thrown me out yet. I love the aurora of genuine holiness found in the Orthodox churches (including Catholic I might add), the Bible teaching in Baptist and full gospel, the freedom of worship in Pentecostal, the dogmaticness (is that a word?) of the independents, the familiarly of the mainline (Methodist, Lutheran, Presbyterian), the fellowship and closeness of the Mennonite and Brethren. If only all these assets be combined into one church, there would be no stopping it! However I visit not to shop around but to learn. I think a person should find where God wants them and plug in. Too many are using their shopping list in hunting for a church instead of using God’s list. I think it was Makarios who mentioned we should be where God can use us and to this I agree.
