Bible Question (short): Greeting kiss motive |
Question (full): other verses: 1 Cor 16:20, 2 Cor 13:12, 1 Thes 5:26 Greeting with a kiss was their culture in that time. I find it interesting that my Chinese Bible translating the verses appear to be a focus on the motive of the behaviour whereas English version only uses the term "holy kiss". Here is the Chinese version I translate it back to English to demonstrate the difference in focus: Greeting one another with a kiss, you must be pure and sacred in your motive or mind. My question: 1/ Does the Chinese version transmit the core idea of the apostles when they said so to the church members? 2/ Could we further expand the teaching that even such a seemingly loving and caring behaviour, we should do with great caution?
