Bible Question: What is the meaning of "logike latreia" with reference to Romans 12:1? |
Bible Answer: Greetings Toronto Student and welcome to the forum. Although I think your Koine Greek spelling is off a little, LOGIKOS LATERIA, which came to be translated, reasonable service in the KJV. LOGIKON from the root, adjective: accusative, feminine, singular of LOGINKEN, with the word spiritual probably coming closer. And LARERIA, or service is from the base of the noun: accusative, feminine, singular of LATREIAN and carries the meaning of worship. Romans 12:1 KJV I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. Romans 12:1 NIV Therefore, I urge you, brothers, in view of God's mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God--this is your spiritual act of worship. Romans 12:1 NASB I urge you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies a living and holy sacrifice, acceptable to God, which is your spiritual service of worship. The Key to this verse lies in the word therefore, which point back to something previous. Romans 11:33-36 NASB Oh, the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable are His judgments and unfathomable His ways! 34For WHO HAS KNOWN THE MIND OF THE LORD, OR WHO BECAME HIS COUNSELOR? 35Or WHO HAS FIRST GIVEN TO HIM THAT IT MIGHT BE PAID BACK TO HIM AGAIN? 36For from Him and through Him and to Him are all things. To Him be the glory forever. Amen. I urge you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies a living and holy sacrifice, acceptable to God, which is your spiritual service of worship. No chapter brakes in the original. God has paid the horrendous price to liberate us, by the death of His Son Jesus, so this is the least we could do. Have a great day, CDBJ |
