Bible Note: Hi Brent, I've been thinking about the miracle of the new birth and why it is that not all realize their desperate need of Christ. Your theory, as I undrstand it, is that we are saved at the point where we place our faith in Christ and that those who do so are the ones who are "poor in spirit". You speculate that they have an understanding or a perception of their fallen condition. My question to you would be: How is it that spiritualy dead people came to possess this spiritual attribute? The problem is that if this attribute is not found in every individual but only in some and keeping in mind that all good things come from God, we are still faced with salvation being the result of God's choice of certain individuals, those who He has given this awareness. We chose God because He first chose us. (1John 4:19) We love him, because he first loved us. Your Brother, John |
