Subject: Baptism in the holy spirit? |
Bible Note: Hi graceful, You have introduced a new choice for us by your capitalization in your question to me. You wrote: Why Ray? Why do you not see this as "Did you receive the Holy spirit when you believed?"" So are you saying that the verse is talking about the Holy spirit? I believe the choices should be limited to Holy Spirit or holy spirit, and not Holy spirit. For Acts 19:5 that was on the list of Searcher's post: This talks about the Holy Spirit "coming upon". You might remember that on those occasions of rendering I go with Holy Spirit. So we are in agreement there. But when the Scriptures talk about being "filled with the *holy *spirit" I do not believe that it is talking about Deity. I believe that Jesus was filled with the holy spirit. Jesus was God with us and the Holy Spirit came upon Him like a dove and He was filled with the holy spirit and was led by the Spirit. Luke 3:21-4:1. Luke 4:13, "And when the devil had finished every temptation, he departed from Him until an opportune time. And (Jesus) returned to Galilee in the power of the Spirit; and news about Him spread through all the surrounding district. And He began teaching in their synagogues and was praised by all. And He came to Nazareth, where He had been brought up; and as was His/ custom, He entered the synagogue on the Sabbath, and stood up to read. And the book of the prophet Isaiah was handed to Him. And (He) opened the book, and found the place where it was written, "THE Spirit OF THE Lord IS UPON Me, BECAUSE He ANNOINTED Me TO PREACH THE GOSPEL TO THE POOR. He/ HAS SENT Me TO PROCLAIM RELEASE TO THE CAPTIVES, AND RECOVERY OF SIGHT TO THE BLIND, TO SET FREE THOSE WHO ARE DOWN-TRODDEN, TO PROCLAIM THE FAVORABLE YEAR OF THE Lord." 20 And (He) closed the book, and gave it back to the attendant, and sat down; and the eyes of all in the synagogue were fixed upon Him. And He bagan to say to them, "Today this Scripture has been fulfilled in your hearing."" This is an opened and closed book. The words that Jesus spoke were the "holy spirit" of the Scriptures to my mind. These words of the book are the spirit with which we are born again. They are words of power and eternal life. I would be happy to talk about 1 Corinthians 12:12-14 later. For now, may I just say that the verses talk about one Spirit but many members. From the heart, Ray |
