Bible Question: In the 3rd chapter of John, Jesus is talking to Nicodemus and he tells him that "accept a man be born of the water and of the spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God" I am trying to understand this verse. I know in this verse Jesus is not talking about water baptism. ButI don't understand what the "water" in this verse is referring to. Can anyone help me with this? |
Bible Answer: Many Bible scholars believe that the water expressed in this verse refers to a natural birth (babies in the womb -- see verse 4). That would make the next verse show a parallel. Water vs. Spirit in verse 5 and Flesh vs. Spirit in verse 6. |
