Subject: Whose are you? |
Bible Note: Hi Robert, Thank you for your post and the deep thinking that you have done. Isn't it good to think on the things of God. Your point about Christ being the only answer is right on. So lets think some more together about what it means to receive Him. 1) I don't agree that to receive and to believe have the same meaning. Webster's dictionary says that receive "may or may not imply the consent of the recipient [to receive a gift, a blow, etc.] All people can be enlightened or receive the record that God has given us, that is , the Holy Bible. In other words, know ABOUT Jesus. But we may or may not accept Him or believe Him as the Son of God and as our Savior. 2) Can you give me the Scripture where it talks of "indwelling" of the Holy Spirit? 3) I also believe that "(His) fullness" refers to verse fourteen; but it refers back to believing in "(His) name" also. For as you have said, we have been born from above (not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God). Not only does it refer back to (His) name and the only begotten from the Father; it refers ahead to Jesus Christ, the only begotten God. Jesus explained Him and they looked forward to the (Prophet). 4) And the world was made through (Him). John 1:10 5) And He is the image of the invisible (God), the FIRST-BORN of all creation. Colossians 1:15 6) And He is the (Beginning), the FIRST-BORN from the dead; so that He might come to have first place in everything. For all the fullness was pleased to dwell in Him. Colossians 1:18,19 I think that when Christ dwells in us, that doesn't mean that the Holy Spirit TOTALLY dwells in us; for Colossians says that the fullness dwelled in Him. That is one reason why I put holy spirit in lower case when talking about being filled with the holy spirit. Christ indwells us, the Holy Spirit comes upon us, but we are filled with the holy spirit. That's the way I see it. Your turn, brother. We might look at 1 Corinthians 2:10 if you want to consider "that Christ dwells in us by His Spirit" (Or, spirit?) in regard to your last paragraph's capitalization. From the heart, Ray |
