Bible Question (short): Heirs of God - Becoming Gods?

Question (full): I heard a statement that startled me about being heirs of God. They said that if we become heirs of God, then we are able to have all that He has...so, if we have all that He has, we should be like Him...like God. I told them that this only means that we have the right to be with Him in Heaven, but they said that isn't how it is spelled out in the bible. What do you folks think?
