Subject: What is a Christian? |
Bible Note: Judith, many people follow the teachings of Jesus Christ. Our nation was founded upon His principles. Following His teaching and trying to live our lives accordingly is an admirable goal but it will NOT result in eternal life. I have read several postings addressed to you by other members of this forum who have explained that Christianity is a relationship that is based upon GOd's Grace extended to us out of His love and Mercy for us - it is not something that we can work for or follow. Salvation is found in none other than the FINISHED work of Jesus Christ. Recognizing our sin and the just penalty for that sin - death or eternal separation from God - enables us to come to Him in repentence, asking for personal forgiveness - claiming His death as the penalty paid for our sin. We can not inherit salvation or become a CHristian based upon our family history or wishful thinking. It is a decision of the will to choose God's WAY - Jesus, not some path that we construct out of our own good deeds. I pray the the Holy Spirit will speak to you and that you will consider God's Word with a seeking heart to know the truth and not continue to try and make a way that seems right to you.
