Bible Question: could someone please explain this verse to me properly. " o say again- it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than a rich man to enter the kingdom of God." Mathew 19: 24 My step dad who is not a christain asked me what it meant....and I wasn't entirely sure...except that its harder for a rich man to realize his need for God b/c his wealth creates a false sense of self-sufficeny/ security. |
Bible Answer: Hi Empty Me, the answer you gave your step dad is a good one. Jesus says, "If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me." (Matthew 16:24) Of course this doesn't mean that all rich people will be denied access to the kingdom of God. It simply means, as you and others have said, that a rich person will most likely be bound to his/her riches and will not be so easily persuaded to put God above all for the sake of salvation (or anything else). I see how hard it is for not-so-rich people to accept salvation. Lust and pride keeps them from being able to accept Jesus as Savior. "For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world." 1 John 2:16 Keep praying for your step dad and continue to be a Godly (Christian) example and you will draw him to Christ.
