AMPLIFIED 2015 | Mark 8:31 ¶ And He began to teach them that the Son of Man must [of necessity] suffer many things and be rejected [as the Messiah] by the elders and the chief priests and the scribes, and must be put to death, and after three days rise [from death to life]. Subject: Why does the Bible say days and nights? |
Bible Note: Angel I disagree it says He died before 'the Sabbath' this does not say a weekly sabbath but rather THE Sabbath. The day after Passover Sabbath is "The Sabbath". John makes a point of saying it is a High Sabbath John 19:31 There is only one High Sabbath in Judaism and it is the Sabbath after the Passover. I believe that is where the confusion comes from. Messianic Jews understand this and take it as fact Jesus in fact died on Thursday. We also know the Passover lamb had to be killed before sundown 4 days after the day of selection. Jesus fulfilled the day of selection on His triumphal entry into Jerusalem on the day we call Palm Sunday. For Him to fulfill His role of the Passover Lamb he would have died before sundown on the fourth following the day of selection, for at sundown the Passover lamb is eaten. That day would be Thursday.
