Subject: Kingdom of heaven/kingdom of God? |
Bible Note: The kingdom of Heaven and the Kingdom of God refer to the same thing 'But when Jesus saw this, He was indignant and said to them, "Permit the children to come to Me; do not hinder them; for the kingdom of GOD belongs to such as these."' --Mark 10:14 'But Jesus said, "Let the children alone, and do not hinder them from coming to Me; for the kingdom of HEAVEN belongs to such as these."' --Matthew 19:14 'And turning His gaze toward His disciples, He began to say, "Blessed are you who are poor, for yours is the kingdom of GOD."' --Luke 6:20 "Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of HEAVEN." --Matthew 5:3 "I say to you, among those born of women there is no one greater than John; yet he who is least in the kingdom of GOD is greater than he." --Luke 7:28 "Truly I say to you, among those born of women there has not arisen anyone greater than John the Baptist! Yet the one who is least in the kingdom of HEAVEN is greater than he." --Matthew 11:11 You wrote: "Men are never told to seek the Kingdom of Heaven." Jesus sure makes a tantalizing offer of it in Matthew if we are not to seek it. He definitely presents it as something worth seeking and holding on to. "The kingdom of heaven is like a treasure hidden in the field, which a man found and hid again; and from joy over it he goes and sells all that he has and buys that field. Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant seeking fine pearls, and upon finding one pearl of great value, he went and sold all that he had and bought it." --Matthew 13:44-46 Apparently we are to seek both the kingdom of heaven and the kingdom of God, since they are the same thing. --Joe! |
