Bible Note: Meditations on the Lord's Prayer "Our Father" The first thing I'm reminded of when I come to God is our relationship. I'm a creature, but I don't come to Him as that. I'm a man, a fallen one, but I don't come to him as that. Jesus reminds me that on the basis of his shed blood for me I come to his Father as my own. I come as a son to his own father. Before anything else, the relationship is first. This is how the Lord himself teaches us how to come to our Almighty Creator God in prayer,... as family, as belonging to the household, with the expectancy of being heard, because we belong. The Father is our Father who loves us and as a father is pleased to hear us. Not only am I reminded by this the Lord's instruction on prayer that I come to God the Father as my own father, but that I am received into his presence as his own son. "...but as many as received him, to them he gave the right to become children of God." "No one comes to the Father but through Me." As a son; this truth is the truth, the attitude if you will, that I have in mind as I think and pray about the petitions in this prayer. The only basis or means by which anyone comes to the Father is the person and work of Christ. |
