Bible Question:
Many believers think that their responsibility is to bring people to church so they can hear the Gospel. Is this what Jesus had in mind when He told us to make disciples? "Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age." Matthew 28:19,20 "but you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be My witnesses both in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and even to the remotest part of the earth." Acts 1:8 "but sanctify Christ as Lord in your hearts, always being ready to make a defense to everyone who asks you to give an account for the hope that is in you, yet with gentleness and reverence;" 1 Peter 3:15 How do you "share the Gospel?" |
Bible Answer: Dear mmomapbs, "Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I commanded you; I am all for personal sharing of the gospel, but the great commission (matt 28:19,20) was given to the the church leaders who were the eleven disciples (Matt 28:16). I am not taking this passage so literally as to think it applied to them alone! What I do believe is that, the principle which we may safely take from Jesus' command, is that the church elders are the ones whose task it is to lead the rest of us into spreading the "Good News". It is important and neccessary that the saints be equipped prior to going into the world. We would'nt send out babes among the wolves, would we? Sometimes I think we (especially American christians) are too individualistic. The old "Lone Ranger" mind set. John |
