Bible Question:
Ray We have been born again by beliving God. Our spirit, our inner man, has been reborn by the Holy Spirit. Our spirit has been made perfect, complete again . . . RE generation. The Spirit of God and our spirit are in union. They work as one. When God tells us to do something it is through this union that the action is relayed. Our spirit communicates with our mind will and emotions, our soul. Our soul moves our body to talk, lay hands, pray, etc., complete the action. If we walk by the power of our soul rather than the power of our spirit (Holy Spirit power) then whose action is it? God's or ours? |
Bible Answer: Hi Asis, I appreciate your question and the opportunity to have the first response. If you give the Scripture references that you had in mind when writing RE generation we can look at them together if your would like. 1) You wrote, "If we walk by the power of our soul rather than the power of our spirit (Holy Spirit power) then whose action is it? God's or ours? The verse that came to my mind is Romans 8:15. A dispute that the Lockman Foundation might want to avoid, and which we might be keep in mind, is the one of capitalization of spirit or not. The NASB and the NKJ have chosen differently on this verse. Romans 8:15, NASB, "For you have not received a spirit of slavery leading to fear again, but you have received a spirit of adoption as sons by which we cry out, "Abba, Father!" Romans 8:15, NKJ, "For you did not receive the spirit of bondage again to fear, but you received the Spirit of adoption by whom we cry out, "Abba, Father." Verse 16 says that the Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God. So I would say that we have to distinguish between the spirit that we have received and the Spirit of God. Thus, I would not write as you did about "our spirit (Holy Spirit power)." I believe that the word and its parenthesis should agree in capitalization. The action that I see in the way that you wrote it is both ours AND God's. "The Spirit of God and our spirit are in union" I can agree with you on; but they are not the same. One is Spirit and the other is spirit. From the heart, Ray |
