Subject: How do you "share the Gospel?" |
Bible Note: Ken Hepting - Ken, in your post to Makarios you express the thought that you are more and more of the opinion that being saved and being born again are two separate issues in one's life. How can that be, Ken? The terms being saved, salvation, regeneration, and being born again are all of them peas of the same pod. The Bible teaches that regeneration, i.e., 'being saved' is the act of God the Holy Spirit (John 3:5), through the instrumentality of the Word of God (1 Peter 1:23) by which one who is spiritually dead is made alive and brought to share in the resurrection of life (Ephesians 1:19-2:6) and is made a child of God (John 1:12,13). Another term for regeneration is 'the new birth' or 'being born again.' ...... Our Lord in John 3:3 told Nicodemus, "Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God." ...... Ken, while I have no way of knowing what you had in mind when you said that you are more and more of the opinion that being saved and being born again can be two separate issues, I am guessing at the possibility that you may be confusing regeneration, which is being born again, and progressive sanctification, which is the post-regeneration work of the Holy Spirit that continues througout the life of the believer and which results in increasing personal holiness. We are saved by grace through faith in Jesus Christ, not of works, but we are His worksmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand so that we would walk in them. (see Ephesians 2:1-10). ..... In summary, Ken, we are not saved and afterward born again. They occur simultaneously for good reason: they are one and the same. No one can be saved without being born again. No one can be born again without being saved. They are not separate entities. They are one, they are the same. --Hank |
