AMPLIFIED 2015 | Matthew 27:46 About the ninth hour Jesus cried out with a loud [agonized] voice, "ELI, ELI, LAMA SABACHTHANI?" that is, "MY GOD, MY GOD, WHY HAVE YOU FORSAKEN ME?" [Ps 22:1] |
Subject: WAS JESUS FORSAKEN BY HIS FATHER? |
Bible Note: Richlou Whether you call it a distortion or not, certain facts have to be grasped to fully appreciate the Trinity. There is way to much emphasis on the suffering of Christ in his humanity (be assured I’m not saying Jesus wasn’t human) and not enough on His being a propitiation for our sin. Jesus bought our freedom with His blood, blood released in anguish, but it is the blood not the anguish that should be our focus. Think of communion Jesus never mentioned, remember my anguish, but rather remember my blood poured out for you in the new covenant. The question remains did Christ question God or not? I say definitely not! Therefore if Jesus spoke these words for any other reason than to point us to Psalm 22 they would have been spoken in vain. Which I feel is equally impossible. That is my position and unless you can convince me Jesus was questioning God I would say we don’t have much left to thrash. Be Blessed and Be a Blessing EdB |
