AMPLIFIED 2015 | Matthew 27:46 About the ninth hour Jesus cried out with a loud [agonized] voice, "ELI, ELI, LAMA SABACHTHANI?" that is, "MY GOD, MY GOD, WHY HAVE YOU FORSAKEN ME?" [Ps 22:1] |
Subject: WAS JESUS FORSAKEN BY HIS FATHER? |
Bible Note: Searcher they are not empty words, they are Jesus teaching (read reaching out in love) to the lost that truly He is the Messiah. He is quoting the very prophecy that describes what is taking place. He is showing He is the fulfillment of the prophecy. When David wrote those words were they empty words even though we know God never abandoned him? We know the answer is no. David was expressing his human dispair not the fact that God had forsaken him. God promised before Jesus never to leave nor forsake us. God didn't leave one of his even when they were in sin. God sent the prophet to David, to Saul, to Solomon, God heard the cries of Samson and many many more. EdB |
