AMPLIFIED 2015 | Matthew 27:46 About the ninth hour Jesus cried out with a loud [agonized] voice, "ELI, ELI, LAMA SABACHTHANI?" that is, "MY GOD, MY GOD, WHY HAVE YOU FORSAKEN ME?" [Ps 22:1] |
Subject: WAS JESUS FORSAKEN BY HIS FATHER? |
Bible Note: To me to say Jesus was separated from God is the same as saying Jesus died spiritually. Since Jesus was deity that would be impossible! We know Adam died spiritually when he sinned because he was separated from God and we know we are dead spiritually before salvation through Jesus Christ because we are separated from God. Therefore Jesus to have been separated from God would have to been dead spiritually. For Jesus to die negates the scripture that says Jesus is eternal. That Impossible and make scripture conflict with itself! The whole concept that Jesus was separated from God by this verse is simply bad teaching. No other verse in the Bible even hints of that possibility. I believe it is bad teaching initiated by someone that, didn’t realize this utterance was a reference to Psalm 22 and in an effort to explain it, invented God abandoning Jesus. Nonsense, God does not abandon us when we are in sin. The words says to break even one part of the law is to break it all, so we were swamped in sin. God has promised never to leave us nor forsake us. And this promise is in both the Old and New Testament. EdB |
