Bible Question: I heard scholars of the Jesus Committee studied this verse for 2 years and were unable to determine its meaning. Does anyone know? |
Bible Answer: Hi, bstudent! Some times a rose is just a rose... There are many Teachings offered to us by Jesus Christ... some are very exact, some are very clear, some seem purposely ambiguous, and some are quite generic... You (and your study group) seem to be complicating a generic formula... it is just as the parable of those who being the last will be first... each one of us is called by God (as the people of Israel were--yet the Gentiles answered more readily...) to be a servant/slave (we are slaves of that which we serve) to serve in the kingdom... Jesus' example is not that there are "special slaves" but that as His servants we have a different code of conduct than that of the world! If we behave as the world (the wicked servant) our Master will return on the least expected day/hour and bring upon us His Judgment... we will be judge according to our state of grace (the good servant) or disgrace (the wicked servant)... Jesus cautions us to be alert, to be conscious of His return and how He wishes to find us! True, as the parable of the coins states: those who are confided much, much will be demanded from them... James says it this way: Only a few of you, my brothers, should be teachers, bearing in mind that we shall receive a stricter judgement. (James 3:1) The above passage, though generic, is directed strictly to those in the Faith; while the original passage of your query is generic for all who come to serve/believe! God Bless! Angel |
