Bible Note: Funny how a certain sense of foreboding comes upon me when I address you as "Ominous." .... I suppose we'll have to set aside "the opinions of interpreters" and go it alone, will we? That disturbs me somewhat. To cast away the insights of hosts of godly men who have gone before us, I mean. Something there is about this idea that seems brash and foolish. .... And perhaps I've been too tame in my seeking and following. I'm accustomed to seek the truth and when when it is found, to follow it as best I can. But you, having "always been one to seek and not follow" present a curious view to me. Can it be explained why anyone would seek anything, especially truth, with no intention to follow it if it be found? ..... Now I haven't yet addressed this antichrist proposition. And I don't think I will. Why should I? In offering a response, I should need to consult the "opinions of interpreters" but you reject those as being of little or no value. I could, of course, inject my own "opinions of interpretation," but I delude myself if I think they would be of any value to you, since you get your spiritual insights by special revelation. So, where does that leave the dangling question about the nature and composition of the antichrist? In your hands, I suppose. You could enlighten the Forum about the antichrist in accordance with your special revelation about which you write in your user profile. You could. But please don't. We probably wouldn't understand a word of it anyway, since we, or indeed most of us, poor mortals of the Forum claim no private, special revelation from God. We are stuck with only the Book He wrote and has made available to His followers, and we must study it diligently and dig out those nuggets of truth. Still and all, most of us, including this writer, are thankful to God for the Scriptures and for the hosts of His followers who have gone before us whose keen spiritual insights continue to shed much light to us in our time. --Hank |
