Bible Note: Hi Ominous, I did not intend to be patronizing, but instead to just point to the text. The beast will cause all to receive a mark in their hand or forehead. This is stated as narative fact, and should not be looked at as anything other than plain and simple fact. On the other hand, when the Bible says things like "I say a great sign in heaven, a fiery red dragon..." we can know that this now is a 'sign', or symbol, of something else. These symbols are always explained - the seven heads are seven kings - so that we do not have to try to figure out what they mean. Any time the Bible is interpreted as symbolic, you must must have textual evidence not only that it is symbolic, but also what that symbol means. In this case, no, the text does not support anything other than that the beast is a man, who will give a literal mark, and that those who recieve the mark will share in the devil's punishment.
