Subject: purgatory is it true? |
Bible Note: Emmaus I went to bed last night thinking about this subject. When we were in school and got caught doing something that we shouldn't have our teacher made us write, "I will not run in the halls anymore" a thousand times. (I never had to do this I just heard about other kids having to :-)). Isn't that same thing as saying the rosary through 10 times or saying fifty hail Mary’s? Surely the teachers weren't trying to show us grace but rather works to make us sorry for what we did. Maybe it was grace because in those days the paddle swung fast and furiously :-) I know when my buddy had to do penitence, we were sixteen and heading out for the night and he did confession every Friday night, it seemed like a way to keep us away from the fun for a little while. I even threatened him to clean up his life so we wouldn't have to wait while he did penitence. I know what I was exhibiting wasn't grace but rather an urge to sew my wild oats. Where is the grace the writer of that article was talking about? Again I'm not challenging you or Catholism just tryign to understand what was takeing place. EdB |
