Bible Question:
I've struggled with this verse as it relates to my personal situation. I'm a divorced woman who has remarried. I didn't choose to be divorced from my first husband, he initiated it. I found out later it was because he wanted to be with another woman. I have since remarried, and am wholly convinced that my current husband is the man the Lord intended me to spend my life with. My current husband was also married before; he left his first wife several years before I met him, mainly because they were incompatible. So, in light of Matt 19:9... 1. Was my divorce "acceptable" in God's eyes? This verse doesn't seem to address situations where the *man* has been unfaithful. I regard my first husband's actions as adultery, since he was guilty of lust in his heart (if not otherwise) for another woman. Does this make me "innocent"? 2. Was my current husband's divorce "acceptable" in God's eyes? I don't believe it was. 3. Are either my current husband or myself guilty of adultery, in the context of Matthew 19:9? Even if my divorce can somehow be justified, if my husband's can't, does that make either of us guilty? As I mentioned, I'm convinced that God meant for me and my current husband to be together. In retrospect I see that neither of us could have had God's blessings regarding our first marriages. This has really troubled me for some time, and even my pastors haven't been able to help me sort through this to my satisfaction. Thanks for any comments, comforting or not! |
Bible Answer: Greeting to you in the name of OUR Lord. Sister Let me say that you are not the only one who has experienced this situation. First of all quit your "struggling" Jesus has already set, and is making you free. Romans 8:1 says "there is therefore NOW no condemnation to them who are IN Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit, KJV. God hates divorce, but he loves you because of what Jesus did for you on the cross, for you and your husband. God sees you in the future, not in the past, amen? AMEN! Gal 3:13 says that Christ has redeemed us from THE CURSE OF THE LAW.... Now sombody is either playing with your head or that lying devil is twisting and turning upside down the word of God for you. I'm here to say it's that lying devil, if he can get you to doubt or question your relationship with God or your marriage, then he is doing his job! Agree? We need to protect our marriages, We as believers have been provided with everything that we need to live and operate as disciples of Jesus, Jesus intended that every time the devil saw a Christian, (especially married Christians) that Christian would be "armed and dangerous," and a direct threat to the devil. We should be speaking of our JOY not of doubt, amen? AMEN! The Father has already done all that He needs to do. Jesus has already done all that He needs to do. And the Holy Spirit is here now, doing all that He needs to do. So it comes down to us! What are YOU doing about it? What are YOU doing to stop it (struggle)? The GOOD NEWS is-that the devil is defeated and that Jesus has redeemed us all, out from under the curse of sin, sickness, poverty, ignorance, twistedness, wickedness and perversion-and into the wholeness, that brings salvation, deliverance, health and prosperity, spiritually, physically, mentally and emotionally. What are YOU doing? How many of your ancestors' lives has the devil robbed, murdered and destroyed (marriages)? How much of your inheritance has been eaten away by sickness, disease, theft and destruction? But, you didn't know that YOU HAVE AUTHORITY OVER THE DEVIL! But I leave you with this question: "WHAT ARE YOU GOING TO DO NOW THAT YOU DO KNOW?" God has a great plan for you my sister, so you stay in there and fight the good fight, and Love your husband, and you both enjoy what God has purposed in your lives. Jesus Loves You, Your brother IN Christ. HeIsThe1 |
