Bible Note: Greetings MJH! Personally, I have always held that every 'source' theory holds a low view of Scripture! :-) Luke, of course, mentions using some sources and Mark had access to Peter and other disciples, but inspired Scripture does not 'require' a source. The ultimate source is God, and He can't be wrong! :) You wrote: "The three synoptic Gospels do not always agree on chronology. This cannot be disputed, I assume. Therefore one has to either always have a tension, or try to determine which chronology is correct. If you decide that one is accurate, then the other is not. After all, both can not be correct. Does this give a “low few of the Gospels?” I don’t think so. They are all divinely inspired and without error; however, that does not preclude that chronology HAS to agree and that one of the Gospel writers could not have gotten it wrong. Getting the chronology right does not change the Truth at all." It something is in error, how can it be without error? :-) I don't know anything about Dr. Bivin's womanizing, my only concern is that his 'translation' attempts are based upon assumptions, not text. Most scholars still believe that Hebrew was pretty much a dead language in the first century, but even if it wasn't, it doesn't really matter. God inspired the text in Greek. I do believe that Matthew wrote something in Hebrew, but no one knows what it was for sure. It may have been an orginal draft of his gospel, or may have been just a collection of teachings. The point is that no one knows. Your Brother in Christ, Tim Moran |
