AMPLIFIED 2015 | Malachi 2:16 "For I hate divorce," says the LORD, the God of Israel, "and him who covers his garment with wrong and violence," says the LORD of hosts. "Therefore keep watch on your spirit, so that you do not deal treacherously [with your wife]." |
Bible Question:
I understand that God hates divorce but God himself divorced Israel… There is a difference in a situation were two non believers are married and one starts to follow Christ and the other wants to leave…let him/her leave. I want the Lord's favor on myself and my children. They are in a dysfunctional environment at this time and divorce could free them from that. I have held the position that my faithfulness and obedience has sanctified my family..but I'm starting to wonder about that! Also, my wife in many ways has already left this family. She refuses to go to church with the boys and I. She refuses to wear her wedding ring. She does very little of the house work or child care…maybe 10 percent. She has shut down and needs professional help but we can't afford it. We havn't slept together in over two years. Some believe that this is justifiable grounds for divorce... I want the Lords favor…his ways are much broader and deeper than ours and I simply want to know what's best! Thanks for your kind words! |
Bible Answer: Scripture ... Jer 3:8; Mal 2:16; Eph 5:22-33; 1 Cor 7:12-16 ... pricefhome ... Greetings. God did divorce Israel (Jer 3:8); but, that doesn't justify us getting a divorce. He still hates it (Mal 2:16) as you pointed out. Until your wife has phyiscally left the family and SHE has filed for divorced, she has not left and you are bound (1 Cor 7:12-16). You still must love your wife unconditionally (Eph 5:22-33), which is hard for you to do. Her actions or nonactions should not change yor love for her. Doing this may win her for Chirst. Searcher |
