Subject: Should Christians practice nonresistance |
Bible Note: Greetings Nolan! This is an issue that God has really worked with me on over the years. I believe that this is an area of spiritual life that we as Americans tend to ignore. In summary, these are the conclusions I have come to: 1) Personal: Scripture is very clear that we should not retaliate or take revenge. Mt. 5:38-42 alone is enough to make us realize that we should not strive to get our "rights". So, I try to be non-resistent when it comes to my own personal rights. 2) Family: Scripture teachs that we have a responsibilty to provide for and protect our families. So, if someone tries to hurt my family, they had better watch out. 3) Nation: Governments are instruments of God's justice according to Rom. 13. Military service is a part of our duties as citizens. So, I believe that being part of the military in time of need is okay for Christians. Basically, non-resistance is the way to go when it comes to me personally, but if you mess with others, I will do something about it. May God Bless your decision my friend!
