Subject: Should Christians practice nonresistance |
Bible Note: Yes! All Mennonites/Anabaptists who are saved will join in the "Final Battle" that you are referring to in Rev. 19, just like all believers will. You also asked "Are you thankful for men and women who defended our country.." Yes, I am thankful for that, since there would only be chaos without some direction, or moderation involved. However, you have said, "If the enemy attacked Chicago would you be ready to defend your town, or just die?" Chicago is very close to me (only an hour or two away) and I would think that it would be the 'loose' equivalent to you if someone attacked Denver or Grand Junction or Pueblo.. (North CO, West CO, South CO) As of right now, I am considering Church Membership into the fellowship of a Conservative Mennonite Church, and one of the points in their "Church Covenant" stresses the upholding of non-resistance in all affairs. This is the only part of the church covenant that I do not immediately embrace or entirely agree with, since I come from a family with a long history of defending our country in war, dating back to the Revolutionary War, and I am more quick to defend rather then to just set aside and let myself be taken over without a fight! So for me, the answer is an emphatic YES! Yes, I will be willing and ready (I own quite a gun case) to defend my town or myself, but my church would not be so willing to join me in this effort. So I am still searching to see God's will in all of this. I believe that I may go ahead and undergo church membership even though I do not entirely agree with every single thing that the church believes. There are other benefits that I am gaining by being a part of this church. Blessings, Nolan |
