Bible Question:
Searcher, Thanks for your detailed answer. I wonder if Daniel understood Aramic because of his background in Jerusalem or if God just revealed the information to him? What is your thought on this? I don't know what the local language of the Babylonians was during that time frame vs. the languag(es) Daniel may have known having originally come from a different area. What are your thoughts on this? Chusarcik |
Bible Answer: Scripture ... Daniel 1:1-2:3, 8:1-12:13; 2:4—7:28 ... Chusarcik, you are welcome. I enjoyed searching Strong's. Daniel 1:1-2:3 (Introduction), 8:1-12:13 (Destiny of Israel) was written in Hebrew, the language of Israel, until then, at least. Daniel 2:4—7:28 was (Destiny of Nations) written in Aramaic, the common language of Babylon. Notice in 2:4 the astrologers spoke in Aramaic, so they should have been able to read what "MENE, MENE, TEKEL, UPHARSIN" said (5:7-9, 25). I think Daniel learned Aramaic while being schooled (1:4).
