Bible Question:
Thankyou, what about the second part of my question? Was the phrase "MENE,MENE, TEKEL UPHARSIN" written in a human language and if so, what language or was it a divine language God gave only Daniel the ability to understand? Thanks, Chusarcik |
Bible Answer: Scripture ... Daniel 5:5, 26-28; 1 Cor 2:14 ... Chusarcik, All the words are in Aramaic. Wht couldn't anyone read/ understand (vs 5), 1 Cor 2:14 come to mind. 'MENE' (Strong's 04484) - mina, maneh ... a weight or measurement; usually 50 shekels but maybe 60 shekels - It pass. participle of m@na' (Aramaic) (Strong's 04483) ... the word for numbered in this verse - In turn this corresponds to the Hebrew manah (Strong's 04487) ... to count, reckon, number, assign, tell, appoint, prepare --God has numbered (m@na') your kingdom and put an end to it. 'TEKEL' (Strong's 04484) - t@qal ... to weigh or tekel, shekel (a unit of measurement) - this corresponds to the Hebrew shaqal (Strong's 04485) ... to weigh, weigh out, pay out --you have been weighed (t@qal) on the scales and found deficient. 'PERES' (Strong's 06537) ... UPHARSIN is the same number - p@rac ... to break in two, divide n m or half-mina, half-shekel, - this corresponds to the Hebrew parac (Strong's 06536) --your kingdom has been divided (p@rac) and given over to the Medes and Persians.
