Bible Note: ateo I believe the Lydian empire coexisted with the Babylonian empire. In any case it was very small and had no effect on Israel so I doubt it would be included in Daniel. Someone asked where the Lydian Empire was, it was in the what is now part of Turkey and Sardis was the apparent capital. The idea Daniel was written in the 2nd century BC is absurd since it was included in the Septuagint which was compiled in 288 BC. So unless it was written in the first 12 years of 2nd century and managed to fool Jewish scholars there is no way it could have been written in the 2nd century. Secular history shows that language in which the Book of Daniel was written was closer to the 6th century BC than the 2nd. Josephus a secular historian from the Christ time declares Daniel was written in the time frame it detailed. Josephus also asserts that Alexander the Great was shown the prophecies in Daniel by the high priest Juddua, and was so delighted that he offered to confer favor on the Jews thus preserving Jerusalem. Alexander preceded Antiochus Epiphanes by 150 years Qumran literature refers to the Book of Daniel. The Qumran literature itself is dated from the Maccabean period which is between 300 and 100 BC; this makes it unlikely that Daniel was written during that period. Lastly Jesus referred to the book of Daniel, and at that time everyone believed it was written in the 6 th century BC. If it was really written in the 2nd century, don't you think He would have mentioned that fact? Or was Jesus part of the conspiracy to deceive everyone about the Book of Daniel? Let's have no more of this type of foolishness. either you believe the Bible or you don't. EdB |
