Bible Question: Once you are save or a born again beliver do you receive the baptizeism of the Holy Spirit. Do I receive the gifts of tounges at that time. |
Bible Answer: In Acts 2 verse 4 and 7 it give you the detail of what the "tongues" was. There were many people there at this gathering, many of different languages. The tongues that are spoken of are the native languages of those that were around them. The purpose of this speaking in tongues was to be able to reach people of different languages to preach the good news of God's kingdom. In those days there weren't access to schools in learning new languages, this was God's way of giving the preaching work a jump ahead. So if your native language is english, and you are in a Spanish congregation, the tongues people would hear would be of one or the other, whatever is their native language. This is the only place I have found in the bible where the use of tongues is clearly described, and for what purpose it was used for. Nowadays, the tongues you see, are babbling, and the person speaking it doesn't not recall what was said, having more than one person speaking out of turn, or had no control over his own body which is contradictory of what the bible teaches. 1 Corinthians 14 31For you can all prophesy in turn so that everyone may be instructed and encouraged. 32The spirits of prophets are subject to the control of prophets. 33For God is not a God of disorder but of peace. 1 Thess. 5:6So then, let us not be like others, who are asleep, but let us be alert and self-controlled. The Holy Spirit is an understanding of the scriptures, a helper for us. If your heart is willing to practice all that you are learing in your bible study, then God will grant you Holy Spirit. There have been some people that have not been granted Holy Spirit, and those are the ones that only want the understanding for their own personal gain. Example: Simon the sorcerer was not acceptable to God. Acts 8 21You have no part or share in this ministry, because your heart is not right before God. 22Repent of this wickedness and pray to the Lord. Perhaps he will forgive you for having such a thought in your heart. 23For I see that you are full of bitterness and captive to sin."
