Subject: Man or man? |
Bible Note: Janae Why did Jesus from the cross say, "Eloi, Eloi, lama sabachthani?" which is translated, "My God, My God, why have You forsaken Me?" Had God forsaken Him? Even though God promises never to forsake or leave us. Or was Jesus once more in love speaking the first verse of the beloved 22nd Psalm in yet one more attempt to point us to the truth by leading us to this psalm that prophetically describes in great detail the very crucifixion that was taking place before us. Ask yourself this question when David penned this Psalm under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit had God left him? Even though David was deep in sin, God through His Holy Spirit in the last part of the Psalm shows us he never left his side. Just as God never left the side of His Son. The price for sin is blood Jesus paid that price and with His blood he sealed the New Covenant which contains the promise if we believe in Him we will have eternal life. Let us look at it another way if in fact God had left Jesus, wouldn’t Jesus being God have known that God was going to desert Him and the exact reason why? Then why would Jesus ask the question? Jesus knew from birth He was going to die upon the cross for the sins of all men. Jesus went to the cross willingly. Nothing in life surprised either Jesus or God yet what you suggesting is Jesus in bewilderment cries out My God why have You forsaken Me? Would it been more logical to cry, ”God sin separates us now but not for long.” This teaching that God abandoned Jesus on the cross is without foundation and has no scriptural support. EdB |
