Brother, as you said earlier, 'anointing' (Strong's 5545) comes from 'anointed' (Strong's 5548) chrio khree'-o probably akin to 5530 through the idea of contact; to smear or rub with oil, i.e. (by implication) to consecrate to an office or religious service:--anoint. This, IMHO, is applicable to the situation. Elisha asked that Elijah's spirit, mantle, anointing be passed to him. Certainly God did the choosing, the consecrating, the anointing, and Elisha was the recipient of this blessing, this gift. Elisha was anointed, and took up the mantle of prophet.
