Bible Question:
2 kings 2:1 -14 Why did Elisha have to see Elijah taken up to receive the double annointing [mantle] or portion. Why did Elisha not giving up or leave Elijahs side.[presence] |
Bible Answer: Scripture ... Deu 21:17, 2 Kin 2:7-15 ... Elisha did go beyond where the 50 other prophets went, and crossed the Jordan with Elijah. When Elijah asked what he could do for Elisha before he was taken. Elisha asked for a double portion of his SPIRIT as an inheritance (Deu 21:17). Elisha may of thought he went far enough and as the eldest son, when compared to the other 50. Elijah said he needed to go all the way. Elijah may of thought that it was not up to him to give a double portion of his SPIRIT ... but, was up to the Lord. After he saw his "father" taken up, he tore his own clothes and picked up Elijah's cloak and the 50 other prophets did see Elijah's SPIRIT resting on Elisha. To say this was the Holy Spirit would be tough to prove. Searcher |
