Subject: Who else besides Cain, Adam, and Eve? |
Bible Note: Greeting Coverless Veil! In all honesty, I would think that examining our beliefs in the light of Scripture would be constructive spiritually, though it would definitely be destructive to a cult's false claims! Let's look at one such example. I went to the web site you mentioned in an earlier post. Here is what it said about the death of Christ: "One sacrifice, however great, is insufficient to pay the debt of sin. The atonement requires constant self-immolation on the sinner's part. That God's wrath should be vented upon His beloved Son, is divinely unnatural. Such a theory is man-made. The atonement is a hard problem in theology, but its scientific explanation is, that suffering is an error of sinful sense which Truth destroys, and that eventually both sin and suffering will fall at the feet of everlasting Love." So, according to Christian Science, Christ's death cannot atone for our sins. However, Scripture says: 1) Heb. 9:26 "Then Christ would have had to suffer many times since the creation of the world. But now he has appeared once for all at the end of the ages to do away with sin by the sacrifice of himself. 27 Just as man is destined to die once, and after that to face judgment, 28 so Christ was sacrificed once to take away the sins of many people; and he will appear a second time, not to bear sin, but to bring salvation to those who are waiting for him." 2) 1 Peter 3:18 - "For Christ died for sins once for all, the righteous for the unrighteous, to bring you to God. He was put to death in the body but made alive by the Spirit," 3) Heb. 10:10 - "And by that will, we have been made holy through the sacrifice of the body of Jesus Christ once for all." We could go on, but all of these verses clearly say that Christ's sacrifice atoned for our sins. They don't say Christ's sacrifice plus something else. In fact, the very words used indicate that His death appeased God's wrath against sin - all of which Mary Baker Eddy denies. Which will you believe - the Bible or Mary Baker Eddy?
