AMPLIFIED 2015 | Genesis 4:7 "If you do well [believing Me and doing what is acceptable and pleasing to Me], will you not be accepted? And if you do not do well [but ignore My instruction], sin crouches at your door; its desire is for you [to overpower you], but you must master it." |

Bible Note: When he says, "Hence those who have thought that baptism is nothing else than the badge and mark by which we profess our religion before men, in the same way as soldiers attest their profession by bearing the insignia of their commander, have not attended to what was the principal thing in baptism; and this is, that we are to receive it in connection with the promise, "He that believeth and is baptised shall be saved.' (Mark 16: 16.)" Without baptism he is not saved? Calvin didn't think Holy Spirit baptism was an outward sign of earlier salvation? Or he didn't think water baptism was an outward "insignia" of earlier salvation? Surely he was wrong. I think all of those verses are talking about Holy Spirit baptism. Water is not mentioned. That must be the answer. Peter commanded Holy Spirit baptism in Acts 2:38 and the other verse. I'll study more. |
