Subject: How does God speak to us? |
Bible Note: 'How do we know when God is speaking?' (Re-post.) 'By listening to what he says in His word! We learn what the truth of God is in exactly the same way the Bereans did, by searching the Scriptures (Acts 17:11). God speaks to us by His Son (Heb. 1:2) and His Son speaks to us in the Scriptures which testify of Him (John 5:39) We do not need a crystal ball or extra-biblical revelation to be able to discern between God's will and ours. The Scriptures clearly reveal God's will and plan for our lives. There is a prevalent and dangerous wind of doctrine blowing across many churches today that Scripture alone is insufficient. The heresy is being spread that we need something more -- anointing, special revelation, tongue speaking and who knows what else -- to give us a spiritual lift and jolt to make us feel all warm and fuzzy inside. There is the insinuation being made that a believer who doesn't babble in a tongue or get himself "anointed" (whatever that means) is at best only a second-class Christian or at worst no Christian at all. This is raw and unwashed nonsense. We are in deep trouble indeed when we reach the point at which we think the word of God is insufficient. --Hank' (ID# 29260) |
