81 | For His purpose?Blameless in His way | Prov 16:7 | Ray | 154367
Hi Makarios, I believe that the word of (God) is tested and tried. Psalm 18:30, "As for God, His way is blameless; The word of God is tried; He is a shield to all who take refuge in Him." 2 Samuel 22:31, "As for God, His way is blameless; The word of the Lord is tested; He is a shield to all who take refuge in Him." I see those verses as a perfect match even though the Psalm is not matched or quoted the same in 2 Samuel. 1) How do you compare Proverbs 16:4 and 33 with 2 Samuel 22:33? 2 Samuel 22:33, NASB, "God is my strong fortress; And He sets the blameless in His way." 2 Samuel 22:33, NKJ, "God is my strength and power, And He makes my way perfect." 82 | A Brain-teaser from Ray: 09/9/01 | Eccl 2:25 | Ray | 15708
Here is a Brain-teaser: The King James and New King James have Ecclesiastes 2:25 as reading, "For who can eat, or who can have enjoyment, more than I?" Do you think that that is a more accurate reading than the NASB? Can you see how one could find, in a sense, enjoyment without Him?

84 | Song of Solomon: beloved or Beloved? | Song 5:9 | Ray | 112529
As a counter of pronouns of Deity, I was content with the only one found in Song of Solomon. 8:6, "Put me like a seal over your heart, Like a seal on your arm. For love is as strong as death, Jealousy is as severe as Shol; Its flashes are flames of fire, The very flame of the Lord." My first question concerns J Preston Eby. Does anyone know who he is? He, according to a personal note in my Bible, has also capitalized "He" in Chapter 3:1-4. That makes a total of 12 which I could also go along with as far as my personal study method is concerned; being divisible by three. 2) My main question is an outcome of listening to J Vernon McGee on the radio this morning, as he is studying the Song of Solomon. He is spiritualizing more of the book than I had considered in the past. Spiritualizing to my mind means capitalizing pronouns. 3) My question for this verse involves capitalization and also the number of pronouns for the verse. Here is my interpretation for what it is worth, and I would like to get comments. Song of Solomon 5:9, "What kind of Beloved is your Beloved, O most beautiful of women? What is your Beloved more than another beloved, That thus you adjure us?" From the heart, Ray |

92 | These things say He who is holy | Is 22:22 | Ray | 133368
Isaiah 22:22, "Then I will set the key of David on his shoulder, When he opens no one will shut, When he shuts no one will open. 23 And I will drive him like a peg in a firm place, And he will become a throne of glory to his father's house." Revelation 3:7, NKJ, "And to the angel of the church in Philadelphia write, 'These things says He who is holy, He who is true, 'He who has the key of David, He who opens and no one shuts, and shuts and no one opens':" What are your thoughts concerning the difference in lower and upper cases for this One who is holy and true? Rev 3:7, NASB, "And to the angel of the church in Philadelphia write: 'He who is holy, who is true, who has the key of David, who opens and no one will shut, and who shuts and no one opens, says this:'" Which translation of Revelation 3:7 would you go with? 93 | His task is strange; His work is alien? | Is 28:21 | Ray | 145839
The marginal note for this verse in my NASB Study Bible has "21 Lit. task is strange" and "work is alien". "For the Lord will rise up as at Mount Perazim, He will be stirred up as in the valley of Gibeon; To do His task, -His task is strange- and to work His work - His work is alien." 1) Should this give us hope as "strangers and aliens?" Especially as we consider the stone and the rock, even the cornerstone of our faith; Isaiah 28:16. As people of God we want to follow in His steps. 1 Peter 2:10, "for you once were not a people, but now you are the people of God; you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy. 11, Beloved, I urge you as strangers and aliens..." 95 | The fear of the Lord is his treasure? | Is 33:6 | Ray | 151167
Isaiah 33:5, NKJ, "The Lord is exalted, for He dwells on high; He has filled Zion with justice and righteousness. 6 Wisdom and knowledge will be the stability of your times, And the strength of salvation; The fear of the Lord is His treasure." Compare the NKJ with the NASB and Amplified. Is the fear of the Lord His treasure? NKJ. Is the fear of the Lord his treasure? NASB Is the fear of the Lord your treasure and His? Amplified. Who or what is the stability of your times? From the heart, Ray |

96 | The fear of the Lord is his treasure? | Is 33:6 | Ray | 151407
In regard to the Lord lifting Himself up, there are two other places where the context and the translation will allow His being lifted up. 1) Isaiah 33:3, NASB, 1995, "At the sound of the tumult peoples flee; At the lifting up of Yourself nations disperse." Isaiah 33:3, NKJ, "At the noise of the tumult the people shall flee; When You lift Yourself up, the nations shall be scattered." I personally would go with the extra pronoun of the NKJ. 2) Isaiah 33:2, NASB, 1977, "O Lord, be gracious to us; we have waited for Thee. Be Thou their [Some versions read our] strength every morning, Our salvation also in the time of distress." Isaiah 33:2, NKJ, and 1995 NASB, "Be their strength every morning, Our salvation also..." I would go with the extra pronoun of the 1977 NASB with perhaps a modern rendering of the 'You' such as, "May You be their [our] strength every morning, Our salvation also in the time of distress." This is all related to the "who or what is the stability of our times?" Any comments or observations? From the heart, Ray |

97 | How do we receive living water? | Is 41:17 | Ray | 125025
Which translation would you prefer? Isaiah 41:17, NASB, "The afflected and needy are seeking water, but there is none, And their tongue is parched with thirst; I the Lord, will answer them *Myself, As the God of Israel I will not forsake them." Isaiah 41:17, NKJ, "The poor and needy seek water, but there is none. Their tongues fail for thirst. I the Lord, will hear them; I, the God of Israel, will not forsake them." The * shows the difference in the verse in that there is that additional pronoun of "Myself". There is also the difference in the idea of "I, the Lord, will hear them" or "I the Lord will answer them..." I am interested in this verse as I compare it with John 4:10, "...and *He would have given you living water." And also John 7:38, "He who believes in *Me, as the Scripture said, "From his [His] innermost being shall flow rivers of living water." And Isaiah 41:18, "*I will open rivers on the bare heights, And springs in the midst of the valleys; I will make the wilderness a pool of water, And the dry land fountains of water." 98 | Does God answer using a holy spirit? | Is 41:17 | Ray | 125091
Isaiah 41:17, The afflicted and needy are seeking water, but there is none, And their tongue is parched with thirst; I, the Lord, will answer them *Myself, As the God of Israel (I) will not forsake them." Will the Lord answer them "Himself" by the use of rivers, springs, pools, and fountains of water? From the heart, Ray |
||||||
99 | Holy Spirit or holy spirit? | Is 41:18 | Ray | 68565
Isaiah 41:17,18, NKJ, "The poor and needy seek water, but there is none, Their tongues fail for thirst. I, the Lord, will hear them; I, the (God) of Israel, will not forsake them. I will open rivers in desolate heights, And fountains in the midst of the valleys; I will make the wilderness a pool of water, And the dry land springs of water." My question comes from comparing these verses with John 7:38,29. In past discussions concerning this verse I have vascillated between several arrangements of capitalization. I would like to settle this before I die.:) I hope that I am getting closer (to settling it). I am still suggesting capitalizing "From His innermost being shall flow rivers of living water." "Let him come to (Me) and drink." Certainly the Isaiah passage would go along with that. I am now leaning toward the Spirit spoken of and the Spirit or "Holy Spirit not yet given" as being properly in lower case. Thus I would think of the living water as being holy spirit. Comments please. From the heart, Ray |

100 | Thirsty land or "him who is thirsty"? | Is 44:3 | Ray | 141894
MacArthur Study Bible note for this verse: "44:3 water...floods. The extensive blessing of physical conditions will favor the nation in the coming kingdom age (43:19,20); they were also symbolic of spiritual refreshment from the Holy Spirit and God Himself (32:15; Joel 2:28,29)." I view the Holy Spirit as the Giver and the holy spirit as the gift of spiritual refreshment or water. This verse is a reference for John 7:38. Does a comparison of these verses help you to choose between Spirit or spirit? Does a comparison help you to decide betweeen "the thirsty land", NASB" and "him who is thirsty", NKJ?
