141 | Who did they see walking on the sea? | Matt 14:26 | Ray | 56088
Based on the thought that I capitalize "Man" when the verses are talking about Jesus (no matter what the individual belief was at the time); should I for the sake of consistency capitalize "Ghost" here? What would be arguments against the capitalization? |

142 | Overpower her?Does this affect the rock? | Matt 16:18 | Ray | 55794
For the rendering of Matthew 16:18b, I read a version saying that, "the gates of Hades shall not overpower her." This is talking about the church then according to this rendering. If this "her" or the traditional "it" does not refer to the beginning of the verse, that is, the rock or Rock; then I would go with the rock. The rock could be Peter's testimony or Peter himself, but I do not believe right now that it is speaking about the Rock Himself [Deity]. If I would be talked into "Rock", then I would go with the translation or manuscript that does not have "Jesus" in it for verse 20. Matthew 16:20,NASB, "Then He warned *the disciples that they should tell no one that He was * the Christ." Matthew 16:20, NKJ, "Then He commanded His disciples that they should tell no one that He was *Jesus the Christ." The Christ is the Rock or Peter's testimony of the Christ is the rock of the church. 143 | Who turned the tables? A prophet or God? | Matt 21:12 | Ray | 71957
I have a question for Tim Moran or any Greek resident advisors here on the forum. Would the Greek require a pronoun for "He overthrew" or turned over the tables? From the heart, Ray |

144 | How significant is a Greek word ending? | Matt 21:12 | Ray | 73076
In Matthew 21:12 we are given the word KATESTREPSEN in one copy and KATESTREPSE in another Interlinear copy I own. How does this lack of the final N affect the verse? One copy also has Jesus entering the temple of God and the other has omitted "of God". To your mind does the inclusion of "of God" detract from the Deity of Jesus? [Rather than saying "His temple" for instance.] As I have said, I believe God turned the tables in this passage of Scripture and brought glory to Himself. From the heart, Ray |

145 | Catastrophy: Greek "katastropho" | Matt 21:12 | Ray | 73282
Hi Tim, Thanks for the information. Here is another question for verse twelve. Why is this a catastrophy?
146 | I am He | Matt 24:5 | Ray | 145324
Will many come with the authority of His name or will they simply come in His name. In other words they will deceive many by saying, "I am who I am, the Christ." My interpretation of Matthew 24:5 is, "For many will come in My name, saying, 'I am He, the Christ,' and will mislead many." From the heart, Ray |

147 | Are we reclining with Him, in love? | Matt 26:18 | Ray | 110528
Hi Mommapbs, Good thoughts, t. You asked "Are WE reclining or serving?" Your thoughts bring me to the fact that we can not outgive God. And we love because He first loved us. In regard to "reclining" as found in the Scriptures, seven (or more) other passages could be chosen to be discussed. 1) John 13:12, "And so when He had washed their feet, and taken His/ garments, and reclined at the table again, He said to them, "Do you know what I have done to you?"" 2) Luke 14:7-15, "And He began speaking a parable to the invited guests when He/ noticed how they had been picking out the places of honor at the table; saying to them...12 And He also went on to say to the one who had invited Him,...15 And when one of those who were reclining at the table with (Him) heard this, he said to Him, "Blessed is everyone who shall eat bread in the kingdom of God!"" 3) John 13:23-25, "There was reclining on Jesus' breast one of His disciples, whom Jesus loved. Simon Peter therefore gestured to him, and said to him, "Tell us who it is of whom He is speaking." He, [John] leaning back thus at Jesus'/ breast, said to Him, "Lord, who is it?"" 4) Luke 11:37, "Now when He had spoken, a Pharisee asked Him/ to have lunch with him; and He went in, and reclined at the table." See also Luke 11:45,46. 5) Matthew 26:6, "Now when Jesus was in Bethany, at the home of Simon the leper, a woman came to Him with an alabaster vial of very costly perfume, and she poured it upon His head as He/ reclined at the table." ... 20 Now when evening had come, He/ was reclining at the table with the twelve disciples." 6) Luke 22:14, "And when the hour had come (He) reclined at the table, and the apostles with Him." 7) Mark 16:14, "And afterward He appeared to the eleven themselves as they were reclining at the table; and He/ reproached them for their unbelief and hardness of heart, because they had not believed those who had seen Him after he had risen." Do we want to discuss any of those? Perhaps the question to ask is also "Are we reclining with Him?" We should not seek to be the ones reclining at the table being served, but rather we should be one with Him in purpose and spirit. From the heart, Ray |

148 | Is it necessarily a threat? | Matt 26:24 | Ray | 105519
Would someone knowledgeable in Greek (like Tim Moran) like to comment on this verse? I wonder if there is anything in the Greek that would tell us if the sentence deals with the feelings of Judas or not. From the heart, Ray |

149 | Did Judas know the One? | Matt 26:48 | Ray | 59863
The difference between "one" and "One" and the difference between the NASB and Amplified is that on which we will hinge our outlook for the eternal future of Judas. Did He know Jesus as the One or did he only say "Lord, Lord" and didn't do the things He said? I ask this question because I am reconsidering my position stated in past discussions of Judas Iscariot. I wonder if a Greek student can give us the renderings of the various manuscripts and teach about how the addition of one Greek letter can make "He it is" into "He is the One". I am afraid that Judas was just an acquaintance of Christ as shown by his "friendship"; and by the Greek word used by Jesus for friend. Did Judas know the One? If you feel that he did not know Him in the Garden, should we still not judge him because we do not know his final relationship? From the heart, Ray |

151 | Same person? | Matt 28:19 | Ray | 102514
What do Matthew 28:19, Mark 16:15-18, Luke 24:45-49, and Acts 1:8 have in common? They worshiped *Him and recognized (His) authority. The *star and the parentheses are mine. Matthew 28:16-18, "But the eleven disciples proceeded to Galilee, to the mountain which Jesus had designated. And when they saw Him,/ they worshiped Him; but some were doubtful. And Jesus came up and spoke to them, saying, "All authority has been given to (Me) in heaven and on earth." Mark 16:14, 15, "And afterward, He appeared to the eleven themselves as they were reclining at the table; and He/ reproached them for their unbelief and hardness of heart, because they had not believed those who had seen Him after He had risen. And (He) said to them, "Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation." Luke 24:47ff, "and that repentance for forgiveness of sins should be proclaimed in *His name to all the nations, beginning from Jerusalem. You are witnesses of these things. And behold, I/ am sending forth the promise of My Father upon you; but you are to stay in the city until you are clothed with power from on high." And (He) led them out as far as Bethany, and He lifted up His hands and blessed them. And it came about that while He was blessing them, He parted from them. And they [worshiped *Him] and returned to Jerusalem with great joy, and were continually in the temple, praising God./" Acts 1:8, "but you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be (My) witnesses both in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and even to the remotest part of the earth." Is the Person of Acts the same person or Person that gave the three commands in the gospels? From the heart, Ray |

152 | "promise or Promise?" | Matt 28:19 | Ray | 102710
I am always happy to see someone note Jesus as being a Person, (a Man, if you will) and as God. In thinking about Jesus as Spirit, what thought would you have while comparing Acts 1:4, Acts 1:8, and Luke 24:49? Do you agree with the NKJ version where the capitalization/interpretation speaks about the "Promise of My Father".? From the heart, Ray |

153 | Man or man? | Mark | Ray | 141463
Hi Jdrummer, Psalm 22, NASB, has the "forsaken me" in lower case in verse 1, and verse 6 explains that "I am a worm, and not a man." So Jesus is remembering this song of David while on the cross. However, He was not just a man in the midst of a tragedy, He was truly the Son of God. That is why I go with the NKJ for Mark 15:39, "Truly this Man [sic] was the Son of God." So, Psalm 22 says to my mind, "Why hast Thou forsaken me?" [David]; and Mark 15:34, "Why hast Thou forsaken Me?" [This Man Jesus Christ]. So my question continues to be "Why do people continue to think of Jesus as a human rather than His [sic] being in the likeness of men?" What do you think? From the heart, Ray |

154 | Christ's nature;before or after the fall | Mark | Ray | 141469
Hi BradK, Why do you think that "he" [sic] was on the cross? Why is Christ in your mind as the God-man instead of the God/Man? In Genesis, Adam was called Man. Should not the second Adam be called Man as well? Is the "human nature" of Jesus to be thought of as one that is before or after the fall? From the heart, Ray |

155 | Filled with the holy spirit? | Mark 1:10 | Ray | 148800
We "must be filled/anointed by the Holy Spirit in order to know the mysteries of God!" "Jesus has no need to be anointed/filled with the Holy Spirit;..." Do these thoughts lead us to a consideration of the Holy Spirit being the Giver and the holy spirit as the gift? From the heart, Ray |
||||||
156 | The gift of God | Mark 1:10 | Ray | 148818
Hi terrib, I'll make this a question since there is nothing before us right now on the forum. John 3:16 says that God gave His Son, so the Son is a gift. John 14:16 says that the Father will give another Helper, the Holy Spirit; so the Spirit is a gift. What gift do you see in John 4:10? "Jesus answered and said to her, "If you knew the gift of God, and who it is who says to you, 'Give Me a drink,' you would have asked Him, and He would have given you living water." From the heart, Ray |

157 | Spirit of Jesus? His Spirit? | Mark 2:8 | Ray | 79165
What can we say about the Spirit of Christ or the Spirit of Jesus? I was comparing Mark 2:7,8 with 1 Corinthians 2:10,11. I was comparing the words but seeing also a contrast in Persons of the triune God. It seemed to make more sense to me to have a capital Spirit for Mark 2:8 when comparing the verses. Does anyone see what I am thinking? Any comments? From the heart, Ray |

158 | Who is this One who even forgives sins? | Mark 4:35 | Ray | 56700
Who is this who even forgives sins? Luke 7:48, "And *He said to her, "Your sins have been forgiven." And those who were reclining at the table with ***Him began to say to themselves, "Who is this [man] who even forgives sins?" And He/ said to the woman, "Your faith has saved you; go in peace."" So I would say who is this [Man]? The Son of God/. John 13:13, "You call (Me) Teacher and Lord; and you are right, for so *I am. If ***I then, the Lord and Teacher/, washed your feet you also ought to wash one another's feet." From the heart, Ray |

159 | What manner of Man is this? | Mark 4:41 | Ray | 79149
Mark 4:41, NASB, "And they became very much afraid and said to one another, 'Who then is this, that even the wind and the sea obey Him?'" Mark 4:41, KJ, "And they feared exceedingly, and said one to another, What manner of man is this, that even the wind and the sea obey him?" God in the flesh was asleep in the boat, but they awoke Him. What manner of man is this then? I would interpret it rather, "What manner of Man is this". What do you think? Interlinear Greek-English New Testament, Jay P.Green, Sr, editor, reads thus: Mark 4:41, "And they feared a great fear and said to one another, Who then is this One, that even the wind and the sea obey Him?" From the heart, Ray |

160 | The "finger of God" | Mark 6:7 | Ray | 17176
One of the characteristics of Mark's writing is the use of "And" and "While" and "Then" to keep the action flowing. Here in Mark 6:7 is a place where a pronoun has been dropped from the previous copyright. No big deal one might say, but I would wonder why from among all the other "And He" occurances that this one should be dropped. I believe that "And He gave them authority over the unclean spirits." Be that as it may, here is my question. The authority over unclean spirits comes from God. Look at Exodus 8:19, Luke 11:20, and Matthew 12:28 and talk about the "finger of God". |
