Hi guys, I suppose that you are looking at baptism in these verses. However, in comparing the passages I contemplated on how everything has been subjected to Him after He went into heaven. Mark 16:15, "And He said to them, "Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation. 16 He who has believed and has been baptized shall be saved; but he who has disbelieved shall be condemned. 17 And these signs will accompany those who have believed: in My name they will cast out demons, they will speak with new tongues; 18 they will pick up serpents, and if they drink any deadly poison, it shall not hurt them; they will lay hands on the sick, and they will recover." 19 So then, when the Lord Jesus had spoken to them, He was RECEIVED UP INTO HEAVEN, and sat down at the right hand of God. 20 And they went out and preached everywhere, while the Lord worked with them, and confirmed the word by the signs that followed." 1 Peter 3:21, "And corresponding to that, baptism now saves you--not the removal of dirt from the flesh, but an appeal to God for a good conscience--through the resurrection of Jesus Christ, 22 who is at the right hand of God, HAVING GONE INTO HEAVEN, after angels and authorities and powers had been subjected to Him. 4:1, "Therefore, since Christ has suffered in the flesh, arm yourselves also with the same purpose, because he who has suffered in the flesh has ceased from sin, 2 so as to live the rest of the time in the flesh no longer for the lusts of men, but for the will of God." Tara Bug, How can you know that you can control yourselves? How do you know that you can always say no? How do you know that you can correct a mistake even if it is only for a minute? You can say that you won't have intercorse of course, but that doesn't make it right. |

3 | Gen 41:38 Spirit of God or divine spirit | Bible general Archive 2 | Ray | 116534
Hi lgtg, First of all I have to apologize to shey for I will not be speaking to her question since I feel that she should talk to someone who knows her. It has been known to happen in the past that our threads on the forum get off subject. If you think it best we can go to another thread. I have been thinking of the Holy Spirit and a desire to not quench His spirit lately. So I was thinking of what you have said and your Scripture references. 1) What do you think of "the spirit of the Lord" that is in you that makes you feel bold to venture an opinion about shey's dream? 2) In relation to the above question, which version would you go with for Genesis 41:38? Genesis 41:38, NASB, "Then Pharaoh said to his servants, "Can we find a man like this, in whom is a divine spirit?" Genesis 41:38, NKJ, "And Pharaoh said to his servants, "Can we find such a one as this, a man in whom is the Spirit of God?" From the heart, Ray |

4 | Which version/interpretation? | Bible general Archive 2 | Ray | 117639
Which version/interpretation? Colossians 2:15, NASB, "When He had disarmed [Or, divested Himself of] the rulers and authorities, (He) made a public display of them, having triumphed over them through Him [Or, it]. Colossians 2:15, NKJ, "Having disarmed principalities and powers, (He) made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them in it." Question: What all was nailed to the cross? A certificate of cancelled debt for sins? The Law with all its decrees? The body of Christ? All of the above? Romans 7:6, "But now we have been released from the Law, having died to that by which we were bound, so that we serve in newness of the (Spirit )[Or, spirit] and not in oldness of the letter." Parentheses here are mine for comparison of verses. From the heart, Ray |

5 | The law of the Spirit? | Bible general Archive 2 | Ray | 125846
Hi Theo-Minor, 1 John2:20 talks about walking in the (l)Light. Do you see the true feasability of walking in the spirit of love as well as walking in the Light? What is the best interpretation for 1 John 2:20? Should we not walk in the Light and in the Spirit? Romans 8 says there is no condemnation in Christ Jesus. We have the law of the Spirit, --of life in Christ Jesus. Comments? From the heart, Ray |

6 | A question of capitalization: small "s"? | Bible general Archive 1 | Ray | 6048
The NASB enters an alternate capitalization occasioning at the bottom of the page. Consider with me the three "in the Spirit" occurances of Rev 1:10, Rev 4:2, and Rev 21:10. How many of you would make this a small "s"? Also, how about Son of Man in Rev. 1:13?
7 | What verse comes to mind? Fear Him only | Bible general Archive 1 | Ray | 36112
Deuteronomy 6:13, NASB has only in italics because it is not in the Hebrew. The word "only" certainly expresses the idea of the passage in its context. The NKJ margin option for verse 4 of the same chapter reads, "Hear O Israel: [The Lord is our God, the Lord alone, i.e. the only one]" I was comparing Deuteronly 6:13 with Psalm 96:4 today. "For great is the **Lord, and greatly to be praised; He is to be feared above all gods. For all the gods of the peoples are idols,[Or, non-existent things]..." Also Psalm 95:3, "For the Lord is a great God, And a great **King above all gods,..." Psalm 97:9, "For Thou art the Lord Most High over all the earth; **Thou art exalted far above all gods." Praise God with me as I ask this question. What verse comes to your mind for comparison with these in regard to the Lord only to be served, worshiped, and praised far above all gods? |

10 | For power is perfected in weakness? | Bible general Archive 1 | Ray | 75030
Hi Searcher56, In 2 Corinthians 12:9 it says, "And He has said to me,'My grace is sufficient for you, for power is perfected in weakness.' Most gladly, therefore, I will rather boast about my weaknesses, that the power of Christ may dwell in me." Thanks for your interest. It does help to know the Scripture reference doesn't it? :) From the heart, Ray |

In comparing 1 Corinthians 6:17 and Epesians 5:29 tonight I thought about how believers are one spirit with Him and that we are members of His body. What other verses come to your mind in considering this thought of Christ's spiritual body and the church? From the heart, Ray |

13 | Hold fast the Scriptures- then memorize? | NT general Archive 1 | Ray | 80814
Hi Biblebeliever, Is it more important to memorize the Scriptures or believe them? 1 Corinthians 15:2, KJ, "By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless he have believed in vain." 1 Corinthians 15:2, NKJ, "by which also you are saved, if you hold fast that word which I preached to you--unless you believed in vain." 14 | "Your bread"?Or "loaves of Bread"? | NT general Archive 1 | Ray | 118992
Hi Kalos, Your post said that "The Hebrew in Deuteronomy 8:3 has "mouth of the Lord"; the Septuagint has "mouth of God". It is this latter that Jesus quotes." Jesus quoted that in Matthew 4:4. It is interesting to note that the NU text for the companion reference in Luke 4:4 omits that phrase "but on every word of God". These things have been thought about and discussed before don't you think? I wonder if you think that since Lord and God are both the same, we could look instead at the verse concerning the stones. The important thing to my mind is whether this Man is capable of changing the stones into Bread. Question: Does the Greek allow or suggest that there is "possession" involved. In other words could we interpret this verse concerning the stones in both Matthew 4:3 and Luke 4:3 as being "Your bread" or "loaves of Bread"? From the heart, Ray |

15 | So,spiritual gifts that are Spirit given | NT general Archive 1 | Ray | 122030
Hi Kalos, I agree that spiritual gifts are Spirit-given. I remember two people speaking in this thread about Spiritual gifts; but should this not have been written in the lower case "spiritual" as in your quote? People also speak of the "Gift" and the "Baptism". Do they know what they are talking about? From the heart, Ray |

16 | Spirit or spirit? Him or it? Distinguish | NT general Archive 1 | Ray | 122126
Hi Searcher56, Whether the original languages were in all CAPS or all lower case, God would want us to know that even though there are many gods there is only one God. Isaiah 46:9, "Remember the former things of old, for I am God, and there is no other; I am God, and there is none like Me." Surely, Searcher56 even you would take issue with some one who would put God in a lower case for John 1:1. 1) As far as "gift" is concerned, three or four Scriptures come to mind. These Scriptures deal with the gifts of the Holy Spirit; and they are difficult in that I do not know if they should be in lower case "holy spirit" or not. I still distinguish between the Giver and the gift. Are these gifts (holy spirit) or do they speak of the Person of the Holy Spirit? Hebrews 2:4, "God bearing witness with them, both by signs and wonders and by various miracles and by gifts of the (h)Holy (s)Sprit according to His own will." Acts 2:38, "and you shall receive the gift of the (h)Holy (s)Spirit." Acts 10:45, "...because the gift of the (h)Holy (s)Spirit had been poured out upon the Gentiles also." Are these gifts of or from? Are they gifts of holy spirit or gifts from the Holy Spirit? 2) When people say that they have received the Gift or have received the Baptism of the Holy Spirt, are they saying that they have received the Person or His holy spirit? 3) I peronally distinguish between the Holy Spirit coming upon us and between being filled with holy spirit. John 4:10, "Jesus answered and said to her, "If you knew the gift of God, and who it is who says to you, 'Give Me a drink', you would have asked Him and He would have given you living water." The question is: Do we know Him or "it" when we hear Him or "it"? Does He give the Spirit or the spirit without measure? Who or what does He pour out? Are we told not to quench the Spirit or the spirit? From the heart, Ray |

17 | Spirit/spirit?Is Spirit given or spirit? | NT general Archive 1 | Ray | 122312
Acts 8:18 ..the (s)Spirit was bestowed through the laying on of the apostles' hands..." Acts 8:19, "...may receive the (h)Holy (s)Spirit." 1 Tim 4:14, "Do not neglect the spiritual gift within you... 1 Tim 1:6, "... kindle afresh the gift of God which is in you through the laying on of my hands." Question: Is not the holy spirit [sic] a spiritual gift from the Holy Spirit Himself? From the heart, Ray |

18 | A spirit of timidity? | NT general Archive 1 | Ray | 122781
Hi WTB, I loved your post but must ask you "Is the Word an It?" I would encourage you to rephrase that and say that "the devil knows what the *word says but he will not put *it into action!" Is the Spirit an It? 1 John 6:63, "It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh profits nothing; the words that I have spoken to you are spirit and life." I would offer this interpretation: "The **Spirit is the *One who gives life; the flesh profits nothing;..." 1 John 5:16, "If anyone sees his brother committing a sin not leading to death, he shall ask and **God will for him give life... 18 We know that no one who is born of *God sins;..." 2 Corinthians 1:22, my interpretation for what it is worth; "**He also sealed us and gave us the (s)pirit in our hearts as a pledge. [A down payment]. But I call *God as witness to my soul..." 2 Timothy 1:7, "For **God has not given us a spirit of timidity, but of power and love and discipline. Therefore do not be ashamed of the testimony of our *Lord, or of me His prisoner; but join with me in suffering for the gospel according to the power of God,..." Are you open to the idea of a "holy spirit", a down payment, a gift from God? From the heart, Ray |

Hipcdarcan, Compare Genesis 4:19 and John 6:35 with me. John 6:35, "Jesus said to them, "I am the *Bread of life; he who comes to Me shall not hunger, and he who believes in me shall never thirst." Can you see and acknowlede that Jesus is the Bread of life? Jesus said that man can not live by bread alone. From the heart, Ray |
