61 | Ps 54:4, "Behold, God is my (h)Helper | Ps 54:7 | Ray | 137866

62 | God is our Rock; is He our (s)Stone? | Ps 54:7 | Ray | 137888
I am considering whether I should capitalize God as my Helper. However, I was offered another verse to consider and am wondering what the feeling is about the Shepherd, the Stone of Genesis 49:24. Genesis 49:24, KJ, "But his bow abode in strength, and the arms of his hands were made strong by the hands of the might God of Jacob; (from thence is the shepherd, the stone of Israel;)" Genesis 49:24, NKJ, "But his bow remained in strength, And the arms of his hands were made strong By the hands of the Mighty God of Jacob (From there is the Shepherd, the Stone of Israel), 25 By the God of your father who will help you, And by the Almighty who will bless you..." Is God the Shepherd and the Stone? From the heart, Ray |

63 | A question of capitalization: Psalm 72 | Ps 72:1 | Ray | 6979
A question of capitalization; Psalm 72 I submit this to you for your consideration. It is in the hope that in this time of Bible translations galore that you will develop your own, marking your Bibles, putting in changes of capitalization (which are interpretive); for it is how we individually interpret scriptures that we get to know (Him) for ourselves personally. All nations shall serve Him; all nations shall call Him blessed. The capitalization will matter to you if you are (hopefully) looking for the King and not a king. Parenthesis mine for comparison, text NASB,choosing some marginal notes, and some NKJ. Psalm 72 A Psalm of Solomon l. Give the king Thy judgments, O God, and Thy righteousness to the king's Son. 2. He will judge (Thy) people with righteousness, and Thine afflicted with justice. 3. The mountains will bring peace to the people, and the little hills, by righteousness. 4. He will vindicate the afflicted of the people, save the children of the needy, and crush the oppressor. 5. They will fear Thee while the sun endures, and as long as the moon, throughout all generations. 6. He will come down like rain upon the grass before mowing, like showers that water the earth. 7. In His days the righteous will flourish, and abundance of peace till the moon is no more. 8. He shall also rule from sea to sea, and from the River to the ends of the earth. 9. The nomads of the desert will bow before Him; and His enemies lick the dust. 10. The kings of Tarshish and of the islands bring presents; the kings of Sheba and Seba offer gifts. 11.Yes, all kings shall bow down before (Him). All nations shall serve Him. 12. For He will deliver the needy when he cries for help; the afflicted also, and him who has no helper. 13. He will have compassion on the poor and needy, and the souls of the needy He will save. 14. He will redeem their soul from oppression and violence; and their blood will be precious in His sight. 15. *So may he*live; and may the gold of Sheba be given to him; and let them pray for him continually; let them bless him all day long. 16. *May there be*abundance of grain in the earth on top of the mountains; its fruit will wave like the cedars of Lebanon; and may those from the city flourish like vegetation of the earth. 17. His name shall endure forever; His name shall continue as long as the sun. And men shall be blessed in (Him). All nations shall call Him blessed. 18. Blessed be the Lord God, the God of Israel, who alone works wonders. 19. And blessed be His glorious name forever; and may the whole earth be filled with His glory. Amen, and Amen. 20. *The prayers of David the son of Jesse are ended. |

64 | Boasting: Blowing or tooting...? | Ps 75:10 | Ray | 118728
Psalm 75:10, NKJ, "All the horns of the wicked I will also cut off, But the horns of the righteous shall be exalted." Of whom is the pronoun "I" speaking of here? I am interested in this verse as one who counts pronouns of Deity. Should I count it or not? The verse of reference in our Study Bibles is Psalm 101:8. From the heart, Ray |

65 | "I SAID, 'YOU ARE GODS?'" | Ps 82:6 | Ray | 122843
I was reading #18285 and other threads that spoke of the dangers of false teachers and false doctrines. Psalm 82:6 is a reference for the Word of Faith belief that "You are gods, And all of you are sons of the Most High". This verse was one that I studied to determine who is speaking; for my study of pronouns requires to know that information for each passage. Verse six says that "I said". The marginal note in my NASB Study Bible says, [Lit. I, on my part]. So Benny Hinn and others can say that we are in the image of God and a part of God when we say "I am..." However, we can not count ourselves as gods or deity just because we say "I am". But the verse is important for the understanding that Jesus is the Son of God as compared to John 10:33-36 where He brings this Scripture to bear. If our rulers can be called gods and sons of the Most High by the Psalm writer on his part, can not Jesus call Himself the Son of God on His part? Jesus said that the Scripture, the word of God, cannot be broken. If we "count" the "I SAID, YOU ARE GODS" as being said by Deity then I would say that the Scripture has been broken. So I would say that false teachers are trying to put words in God's mouth. My question: The ALL CAPS of the Scriptures leave it up to you to interpret. If you agree that the "I said" is attributed to the Psalmist Asaph, how about the next phrase? 1) "I said, on my part, "You are gods"." Or, 2) "I said, on my part, "You are God's." That decision to my mind [gods or God's] also is important to whether the Scripture is "broken". We may need a Hebrew grammar scholar here. From the heart, Ray |

66 | Shout to the (r)Rock of our salvation? | Ps 95:3 | Ray | 122908
Psalm 95:3, "For the Lord/ is a great God, and a great **King above all gods, In whose hand are the depths of the earth; The peaks of the mountains are (His) also." Psalms 97:6, "The mountains melted like wax at the presence of the Lord./ At the presence of the Lord of the whole earth. The heavens declare **His righteousness, And all the peoples have seen (His) glory. Let all those be ashamed who serve graven images, Who boast themselves of idols; Worship Him, all you gods. [Or, supernatural powers]" What does the greatness of our God and King mean to you? Do you praise Him most for His creation, His righteousness, His goodness, His faithfulness, His judgments? Psalm 96:13, "...For He/ is coming to judge the earth. He will judge the world in righteousness, And the peoples in **His faithfulness." 1 Chron 16:33, "...For He/ is coming to judge the earth. O give thanks to the Lord, for **He is good; For (His) lovingkindness is everlasting. Psalm 98:1, "O sing to the Lord a new song, for He/ has done wonderful things, His right hand and **His holy arm have gained the victory for (Him). The Lord has made known His salvation; He has revealed His righteousness and His faithfulness to the house of Israel; All the ends of the earth have seen the salvation of our **God. Shout joyfully to the (Lord), all the earth; Break forth and sing for joy and sing praises." From the heart, Ray Psalm 96:3, "Tell of His/ glory among the nations, His wonderful deeds among all the peoples. 4 For great is the **Lord, and greatly to be praised; (He) is to be feared above all gods. 5 For all the gods of the peoples are idols, But the Lord made the heavens." Psalm 97:9, "For Thou art the Lord Most/High over all the earth; **Thou art exalted far above all gods. [Or, supernatural powers.] 10 Hate evil, you who love the (Lord), Who preserves the souls of His godly ones; He delivers them from the hand of the wicked. |

67 | Will the (k)King prevail? Yes. | Ps 95:3 | Ray | 122932
When the multitudes heard that Jesus/ was coming to Jerusalem, they John 12:13, "took the branches of the palm trees, and went out to meet Him, and began to cry out, "Hosanna! Blessed is He who comes in the name of the (Lord), even the King of Israel." 14 And Jesus, finding a young donkey, sat on it; as it is written, 15 'FEAR NOT, DAUGHTER OF ZION; BEHOLD YOUR KING IS COMING, SEATED ON A DONKEY'S COLT." What is your understanding here of the Scripture in the ALL CAPS of the Greek? Are the people looking for a king or the King? How about you personally? Are you looking for the King? How does this passage in John 12 relate to the fact that people were trying to "force" their way into the kingdom? John 12:16-19, Matthew 11:10-20, 1 Samuel 2:10 From the heart, Ray |

69 | His Spirit or Moses'? | Ps 106:33 | Ray | 41360
The literary style of the NASB and NKJ often confuses the reader about whether a word is to be regarded as Deity or not. A case in point is Psalm 106:33. Psalm 106:33, NASB, "Because they were rebellious against His Spirit, He spoke rashly with his lips." See Amplified above, "For they provoked [Moses'] spirit, so that he spoke unadvisedly with his lips." Psalm 106:33, NKJ, "Because they rebelled against His Spirit, So that he spoke rashly with his lips." My question, then, is did they rebell against His Spirit or Moses' spirit? Also,I would like a Hebrew scholar tell me why verses 29 and 32 need to insert an "understood" Him in italics. From the heart, Ray |

70 | Rebellious against his spirit? | Ps 106:33 | Ray | 140104
Hi Scribe, Since I am writing to an inactive member, I will address this as a question. 1) In further studying this passage I did not find that God was provoked to anger in Numbers 20:2-13 and I found that Phinehas was jealous with God's jealously in Numbers25. Thus, I believe that the provoking of [Him] in both Psalm 106:29 and 32 could be better understood as "they provoked to anger" and "They also provoked to wrath" since both God and man were involved in the anger or jealous anger. 2) For verse 33 I am penciling in "rebellious against his spirit" because the people were envious of Moses and Aaron as seen from verse 16. Any comments? |

72 | Compare Mt 7:11 with Luke 11:13 | Ps 119:11 | Ray | 44703
In comparing Matthew 7:11 and Luke 11:13 do you see "give what is good" as an equation of "give the holy spirit"? From the heart, Ray |

73 | Does the Lord keep alive the righteous? | Ps 119:107 | Ray | 90917
I am looking at an alternate reading for Psalm 119:107 in the margin of my NASB Study Bible. "Keep me alive" is a suggested alternate reading for "Revive me". I compared/contrasted "keep me alive" with Psalm 33:18,19, "Behold, the eye of the Lord is on those who fear Him, On those who hope for His lovingkindness, To deliver their soul from death, And to KEEP THEM ALIVE in famine." In reflecting and meditating on this I want to be kept alive spiritually and in the word. Psalm 33:20 reads, "Our soul waits for the Lord; He is our help and our shield." Psalm 119:114 reads, "Thou art my hiding place and my shield; I wait for Thy word." Again, I want to be kept alive, revived, sustained by the word of God just as you do, for our souls wait for the Lord. Psalm 119:116, "Sustain me according to Thy word, that I may live; And do not let me be ashamed of my hope." Can I hear any comments about this comparison? I also compared in my meditaing Psalm 34:10-14 and Psalm 119:130,131. Any comments on that comparison? From the heart, Ray |

75 | will pour out My (my) spirit?Who?What | Prov 1:23 | Ray | 107834
I would like to talk about the spirit of wisdom. Proverbs 1:20, "Wisdom shouts in the street, *She lifts her voice in the square; At the head of the noisy streets she cries out; At the entrance of the gates in the city, she utters her sayings:..." The writing style of the NASB leaves the *She that I starred in question, but the she should agree with the other "she" and "her" words. I think that a good verse to compare/contrast with Proverbs 1:23 would be Isaiah 44:3. Isaiah 44:3, "For I will pour out My *Spirit on your offspring, And My blessing on your descendants." I would put the Spirit that I *starred in lower case with the idea of pouring out of the spirit and blessing from the Spirit of God. Does that help us to understand the spirit of wisdom? What are your thoughts? From the heart, Ray |

76 | Spirit or spirit? John 6:63 | Prov 5:21 | Ray | 100976
Scripture references: Proverbs 5:21, Proverbs 3:6, Proverbs 15:3-9, Ecclesiastes 9:1, John 6:63. Compare/contrast Ecclesiastes 7:29 and Proverbs 3:32. Also Proverbs 3:7 and Ecclesiastes 8:17. What can we say about our paths and God's involvement in them? From the heart, Ray |

77 | A good Man? | Prov 5:21 | Ray | 101144
John 7:12, NASB "He is a good man." John 7:12, NKJ, "He is good." Is this good Man deceiving the people and leading them astray or is He leading them in the paths of righteousness? |

78 | Spirit or spirit? | Prov 5:21 | Ray | 101369
I was comparing/contrasting some verses today and happened on Luke 13:27 and John 9:29. John 9:29 says in part, "we do not know where (He) is from." Luke 13:27 says in part, "(I) do not know where you are from." Also Luke 13:26 says, "Then you will begin to say, 'We ate and drank in Your presence, and You/ taught in our streets'". John 6:45, "It is written in the prophets, 'And they shall all be taught of God/.'.." I hope that we can accept the teachings of God and know Him better so that He will know where we are coming from. Do any thoughts or verses come to mind for anyone? Would John 3:8 apply here? |

79 | Roll your works to the Lord | Prov 16:3 | Ray | 154249
The word "commit" in Proverbs 16:3 is literally "roll" as in the Amplified version above. What does it mean to roll your works to the Lord? How does our understanding of that word "roll" relate to the next verse where it says that everything has been made for His purpose? How active is God in our ways and plans (relating these verses to Romans 8:28 for instance)? Does He make even our enemies to be at peace with us? (See Proverbs 16:7). Romans 8:28, "And we know that God causes all things to work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose." Proverbs 16:4, NASB, "The Lord has made everything for its own purpose,..." Proverbs 16:4, NKJ, "The Lord has made all for Himself,..." Does the Amplified say it well, "He will cause your thoughts to become agreeable to His will." From the heart, Ray |
||||||
80 | Made everything for its own purpose? | Prov 16:7 | Ray | 154167
In the literary style of the NASB and the NKJ, the "He makes" in the verse is capitalized. However, because of this style of capitalizing after a comma or especially a semi-colon, the word (although capitalized) is not always talking of Deity. What is your interpretation in this verse? I believe that God is active and doing things with us, so I would also capitalize the "He" as talking about Deity. MacArthur in his notes for this verse talks about "persecution" and connects these passages for consideration: 2 Timothy 3:12, John 15:18-21, Acts 14:22-27. What are your thoughts about persecution and can all of this be connected to Proverbs 16:4 and how we interpret that verse as well? From the heart, Ray |
