701 | Do animals know God? | Job 12:7 | Mommapbs | 51498
Greetings Parable! All creation is a testimony to THE Creator! But only man can KNOW God in the relational, intimate sense of the word. So often I find truths from God's Word illustrated in the world around me! It is indeed an exciting adventure. Here is what I have learned from God's Creation: "The Graveyard" Jesus said, "I am the light of the World. He that follows me will not walk in darkness but have the light of life!" John 8:12 We moved into our house during the summer and were delighted with the view of the woods in the back yard. In the fall, the changing colors of the leaves made the scene spectacular, so we didn't even have to "take a drive" into the countryside to enjoy Autumn's palette. But as the leaves were shed, a rather ugly sight came into the picture. In an adjacent lot behind us there is a lumberyard with a huge protective roof over the boards and timbers. Aside from spoiling the pristine scene, it seemed so ironic to have a lumberyard in the middle of the "woods!" If trees had emotions, they would probably all shudder as they surveyed their "graveyard." I consoled myself with the thought of winter's shortened days. We wouldn't be able to see the ugliness in the dark. But even these hopes evaporated when the owner of the lumberyard installed a huge security light! We have a constant reminder of this unsightliness even when the woods are in full leaf; the light dispels the darkness even in the summer! As I was thinking about this, I realized that although we enjoy the loveliness of our stand of trees, they are much more useful and have more potential in their "milled state." Think of all the things that are made of wood; think of all that wood can become in the hands of a carpenter! We too are like the stand of trees overlooking a "graveyard", and the light that shines for us is also a "security light", a light of warning and protection. It is a constant reminder of what WE can become in the hands of the MASTER CARPENTER! And now one called "The Truth about Cats and Dogs" Most people have an opinion about cats and dogs. Our late Pastor was a dog lover; he did not like cats and he was not inhibited or ashamed to admit this even in the company of cat people. (His wife, in fact, had a cat!) Now, I don’t have anything against cats in particular, but there is one attribute of their personality that does tend to put me off – they are aloof; they will pay attention to you only on their terms! A dog, on the other hand, is responsive; it will pay attention to you even when it doesn’t want anything from you. A dog is just content to be with the one he loves. I think this is why we refer to a dog a “man’s best friend!” I think God is a dog lover too. (In fact, even His name spelled backward indicates this!) I believe that God is deeply grieved and disappointed when people ignore Him, or when they approach Him with their “gimme” lists. God is looking for people who just want to be with Him; to love and adore Him for who He is, not for what He can do for them! When we are content to just sit at His feet, we will find that He lovingly cares for all our needs. (For He knows what we need before we even ask! Matthew 6: 24-33) We can learn a lot from a dog . . . Blessings! Mommapbs |

703 | Where's the repentance? | Acts 2:38 | Mommapbs | 51438
How does God respond to repentance? Acts 2:38 tells us that God forgives sin and gives the gift of the Holy Spirit. No one but God is able to judge the intentions of a man's(or woman's)heart. Therefore, the presence of the Holy Spirit is the "sign" of an inward change that only God can bring about. In some instances, the Holy Spirit's presence was manifest publically, but in ALL believers, the purpose of the Holy Spirit's presence is to testify with our spirit that we are indeed adopted into God's family(Romans 8:16 et al). The crux of the matter on Forum in recent days has been "what happened first?" Salvation by Grace alone or salvation by Grace AND water baptism. Read the numerous posts on this issue to understand the differing viewpoints. From Acts 2:38 the Holy Spirit is the evidence of an individual's regeneration.(And therefore necessitates repentence FIRST!) We are "new creatures" (2 Cor 5:17) "created in Christ" (Eph 2:8-10)given the "righteousness of Christ" (Phil 3:9 et al) in order to receive the gift of the indwelling Holy Spirit(Acts 5:32 et al) This was demonstrated by the Gentiles when they believed in Acts 10. The believed, received the Holy Spirit and THEN they were water baptized. Since God cannot dwell in the presence of sin, the Gentile believers in Acts 10 could not have received the Holy Spirit unless repentence took place FIRST. This "cleansing" and "regeneration" is a work wholly accomplished by God alone and requires no participation from us other than our confession of faith in Jesus. Titus 3:5- 7 says, "He saved us, not on the basis of deeds which we have done in righteousness, but according to His mercy, by the washing of regeneration and renewing by the Holy Spirit, whom He poured out upon us richly through Jesus Christ our Savior so that being justified by His grace we would be made heirs according to the hope of eternal life." Blessings be multiplied to you as you search God's Word! Mommapbs |

Grace and Truth: this exchange of views on baptismal regeneration has gone on for days. Clearly, there are those on this Forum who subscribe to positions that differ from yours. From your posts, I understood your agenda in asking this question and chose to answer accordingly. 1 John 2:4 says, "If someone says, "I belong to God," but doesn't obey God's commandments, that person is a liar and does not live in the truth." Are you suggesting that those who do not agree with your interpretation of Mark 16:16 (only those who believe and are baptized, meaning water immersion, will be saved) are disobeying God's command? Are you willing to go so far as to call those who do not subscribe to this brand of theology "liars?" |

706 | How do these passages relate 1 John 2:4 | 1 John 2:4 | Mommapbs | 51417
"And this is His commandment: We must believe in the name of his Son, Jesus Christ, and love one another, just as He commanded us. Those who obey God's commandments live in fellowship with him, and he with them. And we know he lives in us because the Holy Spirit lives in us." 1 John3:23-24. When I asked Jesus Christ to be my personal Savior from sin,I was "born again" or regenerated by the BAPTISM of HOLY SPIRIT (see Titus 3:5). I have obeyed God's command to believe in the name of Jesus. It is ALL from Him and through His Grace that I am saved. "And Jesus Christ was revealed as God's Son by HIS baptism in water and by shedding HIS blood on the cross - not by water only, but by water and blood. And the Spirit also gives us the testimoney that this is true. So we have these three witnesses - the Spirit, the water and the blood - and all three agree." 1 John 5:6-8 (EMPHASIS, mine) "And this is what God has testified: He has given us eternal life and this life is in HIS Son. So whoever has God's Son has life; whoever does not have his Son does not have life." 1 John 5:11-12 (EMPHASIS, mine) I have been obedient to God's command. I believe in the testimony that God has provided. I have believed and I have been baptized into His name by the Holy Spirit. As an outward expression of my belief and a desire to follow the example set my Jesus, I too have entered the waters of baptism, but NEVER would I entrust my SALVATION to bathwater! I KNOW WHOM I have believed, and am persuaded that HE is able to keep that what I have committed unto Him against that day! (2 Tim 1:12) |

707 | Where do very young kids go if pass on? | 2 Sam 12:23 | Mommapbs | 51413
Greetings! Using the "search" feature I found this answer posted by Kalos: Do babies and others incapable of professing faith in Christ automatically go to heaven? People often wonder about the eternal destiny of the unborn, babies, and those unable to intellectually understand the gospel. That question is a difficult one. Unfortunately, the Bible offers us no explicit answer. However, based on several passages, as well as an understanding of God's character and His dealings with men, we can develop a good idea of how He works in such situations. Second Samuel 12:23 is one of the passages often quoted to imply that babies go to heaven. Though the verse doesn't explicitly say that, David clearly does expect to one day be reunited with his departed child. Since we know David is a believer whose destiny was heaven, we can infer that his hope of reunion means he expected his child to be in heaven. Thus, 2 Samuel 12:23 suggests strong evidence for a heavenly destiny of the unborn and children who die young. If this were all we had to support our position, it would be admittedly less than stalwart. However, there are other evidences that point us to the same conclusion. First, the Bible clearly teaches that God cares deeply for children. Passages like Matthew 18:1-6 and 19:13-15 affirm the Lord's love for them. Jesus not only used children as an example of the qualities of kingdom citizens, but also taught that they each have guardian angels (Matt. 18:10). Those verses don't state that children go to heaven, but they do show God's heart toward children. He created and cares for children, and beyond that, He always accomplishes His perfect will in every circumstance. The psalmist reminds us that God is "full of compassion and gracious, longsuffering and abundant in mercy and truth" (Ps. 86:15). He is the God who became flesh that He might carry our sins away by His death on the cross (2 Cor. 5:21). He is the God who will comfort Christians in heaven, for "He will wipe away every tear from their eyes; there shall be no more death; nor sorrow, nor crying. There shall be no more pain" (Rev. 21:4). We can be assured that God will do what is right and loving because He is the standard of rightness and love. These considerations alone seem to be evidence enough of God's particular, electing love shown to the unborn and those who die young. However, another point may be helpful in answering this question. While infants and children have neither sensed their personal sin and need for salvation nor placed their faith in Christ, Scripture teaches that condemnation is based on the clear rejection of God's revelation-whether general or specific-not simple ignorance of it (Luke 10:16; John 12:48; 1 Thess. 4:8). Can we definitely say that the unborn and young children have comprehended the truth displayed by God's general revelation that renders them "without excuse" (Rom. 1:18-20)? They will be judged according to the light they received. Scripture is clear that children and the unborn have original sin-including both the propensity to sin as well as the inherent guilt of original sin. But could it be that somehow Christ's atonement did pay for the guilt for these helpless ones throughout all time? Yes, and therefore it is a credible assumption that a child who dies at an age too young to have made a conscious, willful rejection of Jesus Christ will be taken to be with the Lord. 708 | What does "generation" here mean? | Luke 21:32 | Mommapbs | 51307
Greetings Autumn! Welcome to the Forum. Using the verse information feature of StudyBibleForum you will find the Greek Word for generation is "genea". It can mean family or race as well as "generation." I found this also on a web site: A biblical generation is defined as a forty year time period. If we look at recent American history, it is easy to see where these generations are delineated. Around 1908, the high point of the Azusa Street Revival, God began to pour out his Spirit in many places in the world. The Pentecostal movement had its beginning in this revival and the Great Welsh Revival had begun a few years earlier. From Eastern Europe to India, Christians shared a common experience of refreshing and a renewal of the gifts of the Holy Spirit being restored to full operation in the Church. Forty years later, in 1948, the same year that Israel became a nation, Billy Graham began his ministry. The Latter Rain movement, Healing Revival, and Charismatic movement had their roots in events that took place during this year. The apostolic, prophetic and evangelistic ministries were restored in a greater measure for the purpose of equipping Christians for works of service. Then in 1988, the Spirit was poured out like never before. We have yet to see the full extent of this revival, but it is probable that it will bring global awakening, the dissolution of tyrannical governments and the restructuring of man-made hierarchies in the church. Much of what happened in the news in 1988 and 1989 was miraculous and can only be explained by a sovereign outpouring of the Spirit of God with power. 709 | Does the Bible say why? God made man? | Bible general Archive 1 | Mommapbs | 51291
Greetings al k. I haven't been able to find "chapter and verse" but we can certainly understand that God desires to have a relationship with us from Scripture! In Genesis 1:27 we learn that man was created in the image of God. We know that God has a "triune" nature. Consider what the Trinity suggests: RELATIONSHIP - Sharing a mutual desire for fellowship unified by love. This is the kind of intimate relationship that God DESIRED when He created mankind. Adam and Eve enjoyed a perfect love relationship with God until, by their choice, they sought their own desire instead of God's. We know what happened next! (Adam and Eve)They heard the sound of the LORD God walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and the man and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the LORD God among the trees of the garden. Then the LORD God called to the man, and said to him, "Where are you?" Gen 3:8-9 Note especially, that GOD SEEKS THEM! He is still seeking to restore that broken fellowsip with us today! Genesis 6 describes what God desires in His relationship with man. Noah was singled out from among the people of the earth by God and declared righteous (Gen 6:9). We learn that Noah "walked with God." This suggests not only fellowship but worship as well. Worship is the outward expression of our heart's devotion. Is it any wonder then that God looks upon the heart? . . .for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God (Romans 3:23) . . .For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. (Romans 6:23) . . . But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. (Romans 5:8) . . .Therefore there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.(Romans 8:1) Ephesians 2:10 gives an excellent answer for the purpose of the believer. "For we are God's workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do." I hope this helps! Blessings, Mommapbs PS:The conclusion, when all has been heard, is: fear God and keep His commandments, because this applies to every person. For God will bring every act to judgment, everything which is hidden, whether it is good or evil. Ecc 12:13-14 |

710 | degrees of heaven? | Matt 5:19 | Mommapbs | 51283
Greetings billk! The kingdom of Heaven will be full of joy for all because that is where God is.(Jude 1 :24 - Now to Him who is able to keep you from stumbling, and to make you stand in the presence of His glory blameless with great joy,) We will ALL be MORE than satisfied in Heaven! However, recall the parable of the talents in Matthew 25. His master said to him, 'Well done, good and faithful slave. You were faithful with a few things, I will put you in charge of many things; enter into the joy of your master.' v.23 I suspect that we will all have different responsibilities in the Kingdom of God and this is what Matthew 5:19 may be alluding to. Our earthly existence is a "training gound" of sorts for our future with the Lord. Even if it means that I am a but a "janitor for Jesus," better is one day in Your courts, oh Lord, than a thousand elsewhere! Blessing in Him, Mommapbs |

711 | Does Mt. 22:39 assume self-love? | Matt 22:39 | Mommapbs | 51200
Greetings KAS! I'd like to offer a few observations on this question as I have pondered this as well. First of all, pride is the enemy. It can manifest itself in two forms: arrogant self-centeredness or self contempt. In both expressions, the focus is on self rather than God. (Please note that the FIRST part of this commandment stresses the necessity of our whole hearted devotion to God!) When we are confronted with the reality of self - both forms of self pride are a manifestation of a lack of total devotion to God- we come to recognize that "all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God ."(Romans 3:23) This "confession" puts us ALL on a level playing field. We know that God loved us so much, just as we are, sinners - and sent Jesus to pay the penalty of our sin for us. (Romans 6:23, Romans 5:8) THIS alone is the source that enables us to love ourselves. If God loves us and declared us worthy of His love because of Jesus, then we have the RIGHT reason to love ourselves properly, with God at the focal point. When we see oursleves as God sees us, and remember that we are ALL the same in His eyes, how dare we not love our neighbor? Jesus died for EVERYONE - we are to love as He loves. When I struggle in relationships I just remind myself that Jesus died for me and He died for him/her too. Oh the love of Jesus! It enables me to really love myself IN HIM and extend His love to others as well! This is not only God honoring, but it the one true source of self esteem! Hope this helps. Blessings, Mommapbs |

Ephesisans 2:10 sums up the process and the plan! "For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand so that we would walk in them." God does it all! And we know from the creation account, what God creates, He declares "good!" Our responsibility it to trust and obey. John 3:23 Praise Him for giving us the righteousness of Christ so that we may approach Him boldly and with confidence that there is no more any condemnation! (Romans 8:1) I'd say this is a VERY permanent postion! But what really matters is what God says! John 10:26-30 Blessings! Mommapbs |

Greetings Grace and Truth. Tim Moran gave you excellent answers and I agree completely with him. I find it interesting that your screen name is Grace and Truth. Much of what you are concerned about smacks of legalism - the law(Truth) without Grace. You contend that one cannot be saved apart from water baptism. This is a "works based" approach which Jesus came to do away with! Why would anyone want to impose the "law" when the gift of salvation has been freely offered by GRACE to those who simple believe? "For the Law was given through Moses; grace and truth were realized through Jesus Christ." John 1:17 The ORDER here is very important; so is the order of BELIEVE and be BAPTIZED. I know many people who are "completely saved" by their faith in Jesus Christ who have yet to enter the waters of baptism for one reason or another. I KNOW that I will see them in heaven whether or not they have been immersed before their physical death or the Rapture of the church. Maybe God will let them wear a sign saying "unbaptized believers" so you will recognize them too!Truly I empathize with your passion for what you believe, but please don't impose your rules upon those who do not subscribe to this "doctrine!" I'm glad that God is the Judge! I'll continue to place my confidence in HIS GRACE and TRUTH, not the brand that you are peddling! |

716 | Why did Jeroboam rebel? | 1 Kin 11:27 | Mommapbs | 50936
Greetings Forum Members! Since no one chose to tackle this question, here is what I gleaned from this passage! "Now the man Jeroboam was a valiant warrior, and when Solomon saw that the young man was industrious, he appointed him over all the forced labor of the house of Joseph." 1 Kings 11:28 From verse 27, we learned that Solomon built the Millo and closed up the breach of the city . . .coupling this with the description of Jeroboam as a "valiant warrior" suggests the possibility that Jeroboam might have been entrusted with the defense of the city at one time. Now that the Millo was built and the breach closed we might be able to entertain the conclusion that Jeroboam's "tour of duty" was over. However, it is important to note that Jeroboam was not fired nor was he out of a job. Jeroboam was "reassigned;" he was given a new position of responsibility because Solomon, the wisest man in the world, recognized Jeroboam's industrious character. With all the "down-sizing" our economy has experienced it is not too hard to imagine how Jeroboam might have responded to this change in vocation it is? His position as a warrior probably placed him in the public spotlight. I suspect his self esteem emmanated from this as well. He had probably been a leader of sorts in the army, now he was to be a foreman of slaves! Do you think that the reason he rebelled might have been a reaction to his wounded pride? What can we learn from this passage? When God "re-assigns" us or circumstances in our life necessitate a change, how do we react? Do we really seek to be transformed? Oh the process is not without suffering is it? All too often we resist change - yet this is exactly what is necessary for the believer to be conformed to the image of Jesus Christ! What diamonds in the rough we are! May each of us examine the molding and shaping that God is doing in our lives and submit to His authority; saying with humble confidence, "I have come to do your will O Lord!" Note what Jeroboam did after he rejected the authority of Solomon - he rejected the authority of God as well! See 1 Kings 11:26-14:19 God gives us a choice; He also reveals the consequences that await those who reject him. I hope you all will receive a blessing from what God has taught me through Jeroboam! Comments are VERY welcome! Mommapbs |

Greetings New Creature: Here is post and reply from 8/01 Searcher writes: Question: Who was their first love? If it is Christ, how could all they did (vv 2-3) caused to leave their first love? What things were they doing at first (vs 5) that did cause to leave their first love? Can we work hard for Him, yet not love Him? How can we return to our first love? Answer: Hi Steve, I've thought about this too a little bit. I'm not sure I have much of an answer, but those verses remind me of a person that begins with a fire for the Lord that is so great they desire to do everything and anything He leads them to do just because they love Him so much -- and then later that same person when the fire is diminished, doing the good works, but the fire is gone. Or another way of saying it maybe, is that they are going through the motions, but there is not a heart for the Lord there -- only works. Could that be what it's talking about? You said: Can we work hard for Him, yet not love Him? I'm going to rephrase that, in a way that makes the answer simple to me. Can we work hard for anyone (doing the best we can do), yet not love that other person? Is the hard work always the result of a commitment to someone else, or is it sometimes self-serving. Let's face it, it does make us feel good to do good things. |
