721 | thou hast left thy first love | Bible general Archive 1 | Mommapbs | 50901
New Creature! Input Rev 2:4 in the questions/notes filed and click on "go" you will see some good observations about this verse. ( A few months ago, I submitted a rather controversial suggestion about this passage so I hesitate to expound upon it again.) Remember it is God who looks upon the heart; He sees the motives that prompt us to respond the way we do. If Jesus is criticizing the church in this manner, He obviously can see something that we are oblivious to and we need to be "called" on it! This is a sobering verse and should prompt each of us to serious introspection. Blessings, Mommapbs |

722 | Correct typo error "does" to "dies" | Heb 12:1 | Mommapbs | 50878
Greetings Faithema! Welcome to the Forum. I am sorry for the loss of your father. There is great comfort in KNOWING that the ones we love are in Heaven. Peter Marshall said, "Those we love are with the Lord. If they are with HIM and HE is with us, they cannot be far away!" This verse in Hebrews suggests that those who have gone before us are a witness of God's activity in the lives of His children who remain on the earth. The only one necessary in Heaven to pray for you is Jesus - He is all you need! There is no human love that can compare to the love of Jesus that surrounds your Dad and you today. The love of the Lord binds your hearts together - your Dad knows through Jesus what REAL love is! May the love of Jesus comfort you today! Blessings! Mommapbs |

723 | Mark 16:16 what does it say? | Bible general Archive 1 | Mommapbs | 50774
Since the Holy Spirit is the deposit that guarantees our redemption (2 Cor 1:22) and obviously, from the conversion of the Gentiles in the passage of Acts 10:34-48, God credited the righteousness of Christ PRIOR to baptism here! So when did God change the order of His process? |

725 | Passover Prepartion and Armour of God | Bible general Archive 1 | Mommapbs | 50745
Greetings Armour bearer! Actually, I see a contrast. In Exodus we see: "Now you shall eat it in this manner: with YOUR loins girded, YOUR sandals on your feet, and YOUR staff in your hand; . . ." (Emphasis mine) And in Ephesians we are told to: "be strong IN THE LORD and in the strength of HIS might. Put on the full armor OF GOD" (Emphasis mine) The Israelites were preparing to flee their enemies; Christians, prepared with the armor of God STAND FIRM against them! Blessings, Mommapbs |

726 | Mark 16:16 what does it say? | Bible general Archive 1 | Mommapbs | 50713
Grace and Truth - Let's not take anything out of our Bibles, but let's read MORE of what God has to say so that HE will reveal HIS truth to us, not what WE want it to be. "And He told them, 'Go into all the world and preach the Good News to everyone, everywhere.' Anyone who believes and is baptized will be saved. But if anyone refused to believe will be condemned.'" Mark 16:15-16 NOTICE: there is NO mention of those who refuse to be baptized as being condemned! Let's not leave out the following verses: "These signs will accompany those who BELIEVE (emphasis mine): they will cast out demons in My name;, and they will speak in new languages. They will be able to handle snakes with safety, and if they drink anything poisonous, it won't hurt them. They will be able to place their hands on the sick an heal them." Mark 16:17-18 (NLT) AND . . . "the disciples went everywhere and preached, and the Lord worked with them, confirming what they said by many miraculous signs." Mark 16:20 (NLT) Notice that this passage says they PREACHED; it doesn't say they BAPTIZED - so what might we conclude is necessary? ONLY BELIEF! (Faith comes by hearing and hearing by the WORD OF GOD!) So, Grace and Truth, if these signs accompany those who believe and are baptized, how do we account for the Gentiles that Peter preached to who recieved the Holy Spirit upon their BELIEF and spoke in tongues BEFORE THEY WERE BAPTIZED with water?? See Acts 10: 44-48. "Peter asked, 'Can anyone object to their (the Gentiles) being baptized, NOW that they have recieved the Holy Spirit just as we did?'" Acts 10:47. (NLT) |

730 | Spontaneous Human Combustion? | Bible general Archive 1 | Mommapbs | 50424
This is a BIBLE study forum. God's Word is silent on Spontaneous Human Combustion. That is of course if you don't include references from The Revelation to the future judgment of God against the sin of mankind - but that would not be spontaneous would it? For we have had plenty of time to recognize our sinful condition and receive God's rememdy - Jesus, our ONLY "fire escape"! |

731 | Did Peter tell the truth? | Acts 2:38 | Mommapbs | 50417
Grace and Truth: Since many of us don't always look at the "unanswered questions" page when we are in the middle of a discussion, I thought I'd copy and send you a recent post with some excellent observations for you to consider in your thinking about baptism. Tim Moran writes: My question is simply this: If baptism is essential to salvation why: a) Did Paul say, "For Christ did not send me to baptize, but to preach the gospel—not with words of human wisdom, lest the cross of Christ be emptied of its power." - 1 Cor. 1:17. And, b) Didn't Jesus baptize anyone - "although in fact it was not Jesus who baptized, but his disciples." - (Joh 4:2) It seems to me that if baptism were essential to one's salvation that Paul would not have been able to say that Christ did not send Him to baptize. Further, it does not seem likely that Jesus would never baptize if baptism were essential to salvation. |

732 | Can God save us the way HE WANTS TOO? | Acts 2:38 | Mommapbs | 50396
Greetings Grace and Truth: You stated, "Many on this forum don't believe that God could save through water baptism, but those in the bible believed." Please give a reference that supports "those in the Bible believed" As Jews, washing and cleansing were important aspects of their worship, but salvation was and always has been BY FAITH. God's law contains directions about washing (ie the priest washed themselves prior to ministering before the Lord) - I see this as a response to the recognition of their sinful condition and the need to be clean before they could begin to serve God. Based upon this I believe we could infer that the motive for the practice of baptism orginated from God's law. Perhaps Christ's baptism also is a signal that God approved of the people's RESPONSE to John the Baptist's call, to "repent!" He didn't call anyone to be "saved!" God credited the Old Testament saints with righteousness based upon their faith -(Romans 4:3, Gals 3:6; James 2:23) Salvation has always come BY FAITH ALONE - it is the gift of God. Baptism does not SAVE anyone, only God can save! And today, salvation is God's free gift based upon BELIEF in the finished work of Jesus Christ, His Son! Salvation is not the result of baptism or our BELIEF in baptism! Read Matthew 21:21-25. Jesus asked the same question about John's baptism, was it from heaven or from men. But notice what He was talking about just prior to this. FAITH! What do you suppose we should emphasize here? Mommapbs |

733 | Self control and Spirit controlled? | 1 Cor 9:25 | Mommapbs | 50032
Please note: There is NO Biblical support for "reading the Bible" as a prerequisite for being filled with the Spirit. (The following is quoted from page 2064, the Ryrie Study Bible Expanded Edition, Moody, 1986, 1995.) . X. THE FILLING OF THE SPIRIT. . . . A. DEFINITION. Being filled means being controlled by the Spirit (Eph 5:18). . . . B. CHARACTERISTICS. 1) Filling is commanded (Eph 5:18, the verb is imperative). 2) Filling is repeated (Acts 2:4; 4:31). 3) Filling produces Christlikeness (Gal 5:22-23). . . . C. CONDITIONS FOR BEING FILLED. . . . 1) *A dedicated life*. Yielding to the Spirit's control, though commanded, is voluntary and necessitates an act of dedication. This includes two aspects: initial dedication (Rom 12:1-2) and continual dedication of one's life (Rom 8:14). 2) *An undefeated life*. Victory over sin in daily experience is necessary in being controlled by the Spirit (Eph 4:30). This means responding to the light of the Word as it is continually revealed (1 John 1:7). 3) *A dependent life* (Gal 5:16). . . . D. CONSEQUENCES. Being filled or controlled by the Spirit means: 1) A Christlike character (Gal 5:22-23). 2) Worship and praise (Eph 5:18-20). 3) Submissiveness (Eph 5:21). 4) Service (John 7:37-39)." I approach "self-control" as a conscious choice of "dying to self." This is "self" control! Then, I choose to allow the Holy Spirit to be "in control" - it is a deliberate act of the will. Not my will, but THY will be done Lord! (see Luke 22:42) Not "my" way but(Your way!) Yahweh! Blessings, Mommapbs |

735 | Danial's afe lion's den? | Daniel | Mommapbs | 50024
When Daniel was first taken into captivity, he is described as a "youth." (Dan 1:3-6) However, at the time of his experience in the lion's den,(under Darius) he had lived through the remaining reign of king Nebuchadnezzar and the reign of Belshazzar, his son. I could find no specific age given Scripturally for Daniel, but we can conclude from the records of the ruling monarchs, that Daniel was a mature man at this time. Hope this helps. I just use "google" to search for the reigns of specific kings. Mommapbs |

736 | Abram's deception or justification | Gen 12:13 | Mommapbs | 50022
Greetings Armour Bearer! The consequences of Abram's "deception" are described in verses 16 and 17. How much more might the Lord have done for Abram IF he had trusted the Lord with his life rather than his wife?! Something to think about! Also, it is sobering to realize that OUR choices, which "seem" to be "good" (an appearance of Godliness?) may have negative effects on others too! Blessings, Mommapbs |

737 | Five words of power. Part three | 1 Cor 4:16 | Mommapbs | 50021
Hi Ray! Start me from the beginning! I'm reading this passage and what I seem to understand from Paul is that he is chataizing the church for allowing men without the power of the Lord Jesus to minister in their midst. The "arrogant" are accused of being unrepentant for their sinful conduct and at the same time it appears that the church is being held accountable for not disciplining. Guide me through this, I'd be happy to dialog with you! (It's interesting, as I can think of some concrete examples of this very thing!) Blessings, Mommapbs |

738 | is this a passage for second coming? | Matt 25:1 | Mommapbs | 50009
Greetings edfugano! Welcome to the Forum. I have taken the liberty of reprinting a very good answer from Makarios, one of our esteemed contributers here at the StudyBibleForum, for you to read. When you search on a particular verse, do check out the "n" for notes. If it is green, this means that there are notes given on this Scripture. Also, for topical questions, you can use the search field in the upper right portion of the page. May God bless you as you study His Word! Makarios writes: "There were two phases to Jewish weddings. First the bridegroom went to the bride's home to obtain his bride and observe certain religious ceremonies. Then he took his bride to his own home for a resumption of the festivities. Christ will take His bride, the church, up with him and they will enjoy the marriage feast together (1 Thess. 4:17). When Christ comes, He will come and take those who persevere to the end (believe in Him and profess Him as Lord) with Him. If you die before you profess Jesus Christ as Lord, then the "door is shut." There is no chance for you to be saved. Or if you are living a sinful way of life and expect to change just before the Master comes back, then His coming will 'sneak up' on you, and He will come at a time that you least expect it. "For this reason you also must be ready; for the Son of Man is coming at an hour when you do not think He will." Matt. 24:44 " |
